I'm going to rank and give a quick analysis of some of the top talents per position in this year's draft. I am going to make a new thread for each position and will keep old threads listed in each new thread.
Keep in mind, this is purely my opinions. I am not saying this will be the order, this will be how players turn out or anything along those lines, it's just simply my own personal thoughts.
If you'd like a specific position to be done next, feel free to post, I don't mind jumping around. If not, I'll go in order (QB, WR, RB, TE, OT, etc...)
If you ever notice a player not in my list, it's either because I have them at a different position and/or they have not declared yet. I am trying not to put anyone in these lists who has not declared for the draft yet.
Anyway, as always, rate, hate and critique your hearts out.Side note, I've got some real life shit going on at the moment, busy and what not so might not get these out daily but I'll try.
Guard1) Xavier Su’a-Filo, G, UCLASu’a-Filo is an elite run blocker, opening up lanes and able to create holes seemingly at will. He was also very good in pass protection. He played some time at left tackle due to injuries but he’s really best fit to play guard in the NFL. He has all the tools to be elite, good size, mobility, quick feet, able to pull out to the edge, he can do it all.
2) Gabe Jackson, G, Mississippi StateJackson held up very well against some of the best DTs in the nation. He plays big and strong with quick feet but he isn’t exactly fast. He’s not going to be too reliable as a pulling guard but if you’re looking for just that big powerful guy to plug in on the right side, Jackson is that guy.
3) Cyril Richardson, G/OT, BaylorRichardson dominated the weaker competition he faced and fared well against the better talent he played. There’s a chance he can play RT but he’ll be best fit inside at guard. He’s a very good run blocker and an average pass blocker but he’s shown constant improvement.
4) Zack Martin, G/OT, Notre DameMartin is a guard in the NFL but can play right tackle probably. I like him a lot as a guard, not quite as high on him as a tackle (so that’s why he’s at this point in the rankings for tackle). Anyway, Martin showed good blocking against both speed and power guys. He’s not as strong as you’d like him to be though so he needs to bulk up a bit. All in all though, aside from being a bit small, there’s not much to say about Martin, he’s solid in pass protection, opens up lanes for the run game and is reliable.
5) David Yankey, G/OT, StanfordYankey falls into the same category as Martin, he’s really a guard in the NFL but he can play right tackle if needed. He’s definitely above average in both run and pass blocking but he’s not elite in either. He could stand to bulk up some and work on his foot work a bit but all in all, Yankey could turn into at worst a very solid and reliable guard.
6) Anthony Steen, G, AlabamaSteen is simple, proficient in run blocking, struggles in pass protection. Could really help himself by adding a little weight.
7) Jon Halapio, G, FloridaHalapio has the ability to be a very good offensive lineman, he’s just a bit inconsistent and can’t stay healthy. He can handle speed and power rushers and create lanes in the running game. He had a bit of a down season so he’ll slip into day 2 but he shouldn’t fall any further than that.
8) Brandon Linder, G, MiamiLinder has ideal size and agility. He can move his feet to keep up with speed rusher and plant his feet in the dirt to stand up to power guys. He’s going to be a very nice day 2 selection.
9) Andrew Norwell, G/OT, Ohio StateNorwell was a very reliable offensive lineman. He does a lot well but nothing spectacular. He should probably play guard but I can see right tackle being a possibility too.
10) Zach Fulton, G, TennesseeFulton is a tough and gritty run blocker, he can open up holes and blow up defenders. He’s only decent in pass protection though. He might help himself if he can show some potential to play center but other than that,
11) Spencer Long, G, NebraskaSpencer Long has a lot of potential but is coming off of an ACL tear. He was a potential day 2 selection based off of his 2012 season where he performed very well. He has good size, strength and mobility. With the injury he’s probably going to fall to day 3 and be a major steal for someone.
12) Chris Watt, G, Notre DameWatt is inconsistent. His pass blocking is weak but his run blocking is solid. He’s a decent developmental pick on Day 3. This is a fairly weak guard draft.
13) Kareem Edwards, G, Tennessee StateEdwards is very athletic but a bit undersized. He needs to add weight to his frame to thrive in the NFL. He is quick on his feet though and could possibly play center.
14) Brandon Thomas, G, ClemsonThomas struggled at times this past season but it wasn’t all bad. He showed some pass and run blocking talent but he’s a destined day 3, depth chart guy.
15) Alex Bullard, G/C, TennesseeBullard has some skill and potential but he’s going to be a day 3 project pick. He’s athletic and is a better pass blocker than run blocker but overall it’s nothing to get overly excited about.
16) Mason Walters, G, TexasWalters has good size and that can go a long way to helping him get drafted. Powerful and good in run blocking. He needs to work on his agility and footwork because speed rushers destroyed him.
