I'm going to rank and give a quick analysis of some of the top talents per position in this year's draft. I am going to make a new thread for each position and will keep old threads listed in each new thread.
Keep in mind, this is purely my opinions. I am not saying this will be the order, this will be how players turn out or anything along those lines, it's just simply my own personal thoughts.
If you'd like a specific position to be done next, feel free to post, I don't mind jumping around. If not, I'll go in order (QB, WR, RB, TE, OT, etc...)
Anyway, as always, rate, hate and critique your hearts out.
If you ever notice a player not in my list, it's either because I have them at a different position and/or they have not declared yet. I am trying not to put anyone in these lists who has not declared for the draft yet.Defensive Tackles/Nose Tackles1) Louis Nix, DT/NT, Notre Dame Nix’s season ended in early November and he’s still one of the top players in this draft. He’s a massive body that can occupy space, take on multiple blockers, plug up run lanes and be a constant disturbance in the backfield. He’s a major vocal leader as well and can certainly play the role of “defensive quarterback”. Reminds me a lot of Vince Wilfork, even kind of looks like him haha.
2) Stephon Tuitt, DT/DE, Notre Dame Tuitt is another monster from Notre Dame. He’s a massive body that can move, very fast actually. He can play DE but if he plays DT in a 4-3 he’s going to be a fucking unstoppable force. He’s strong, athletic, agile and as I said, fast. He can get into the backfield and wreak some havoc. I said he’d be best fit as a 4-3 DE but honestly he can play any and every position on the defensive line in either the 3-4 or 4-3.
3) Ra’Shede Hageman, DT/NT, Minnesota I’m personally pretty high on Hageman. He’s a former tight end converted to DT so you know he has the athleticism. He’s got decent speed but elite quickness. He’s strong and can be a difference maker on the defense. The problem is that he needs to become a more constant threat. Sometimes he’ll blow through a double team, other times he could be knocked on his ass by Mark Sanchez. If he can develop that consistency and become a little more reliable, he could be the steal of this draft.
4) Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State Jernigan is very effective and consistent with his pressure up the middle and is very solid in run defense. He could really help himself by adding some weight. If he doesn’t it’s not the end of the world but it would greatly increase his chances at being a first round selection.
5) Kelcy Quarles, DT, South Carolina This is my probably way to highly ranked guy lol. I just feel like Quarles has the potential to be an elite DT. He’s solid in getting to the QB but he needs to work on his run defense and he could really stand to bulk up some though. He could also benefit from a possible move to DE.
6) Ego Ferguson, DT, LSU Ferguson is a big guy with speed who is a constant disruptive force in the backfield. Him and Anthony Johnson (who has yet to declare so he is not in this list) were very difficult for opposing offensive lines to handle and I feel that it will translate to the NFL very well.
7) Aaron Donald, DT/DE/OLB, Pittsburgh Donald really, really needs to move to DE/OLB in the NFL. He’s got the size and speed to play the position so much better. But in college, he primarily only played DT so that’s why he’s here. If he does stay at DT, he’s going to be the fastest and most likely best pass rushing DT in the NFL lol.
8) Will Sutton, DT/DE, Arizona State Sutton’s position in the NFL is up for debate but he’ll find one somewhere. He’s a bit undersized to fill the middle of a DLine but he plays bigger than he is so we’ll just have to wait and see. He can get into the backfield and would probably be best fit as a 4-3 end or a 3-4 DT.
9) George Uko, DT, USC Uko could stand to bulk up a bit but he’s a solid prospect. I’m not completely sure where he fits in the NFL (probably inside a 4-3). He’s got good height, a bit small as I said, but plays low and physical. The base is there, just needs to build on it.
10) DaQuan Jones, DT/NT, Penn State Jones is an above average pass rusher and a solid run stuffer. He gets constant pressure on the quarterback and is quick for his size. Penn State has produced quality DT/NTs the past few years so we’ll see if that trend continues.
11) DeAndre Coleman, DT/NT, California Coleman has good size, speed and athleticism. He can play NT or DT in a 3-4 and either spot inside of a 4-3. He definitely does not have the speed to play DE in a 4-3, I don’t care what anyone says, it’s not happening haha.
12) Ed Stinson, DT/DE, Alabama Stinson will make for a very solid 3-4 DT. He’s a quality run stuffer but a slightly below average pass rusher. He would do well to go somewhere that he will be a depth guy for now and learn behind an already established vet. San Francisco, your replacement for Justin Smith could be sitting here in the third round.
13) Daniel McCullers, DT/NT, Tennnessee McCullers is a monster of a man at 6’8’’, 360lbs. His sheer size alone will land him on an NFL roster. He’s very very raw but he definitely has the potential to be a great player. Reminds me a bit of Margus Hunt, huge physique, athletic, but raw. He’ll need some time to develop.
14) Jeoffrey Pagan, DT/DE, Alabama Pagan doesn’t get the constant pressure on the QB you’d like to see but he’s a solid run defender. He is very quick for his size so it’s surprising that he can’t get into the backfield better than he does. He either needs to bulk up or show that he can be a more disruptive force in the backfield.
15) Beau Allen, DT/NT, Wisconsin Allen is solid in run defense and pass rushing. He’s not the best by any means but he’s very tough and physical. He is a blue collar guy who will put his hand in the dirt and fight. I have a bit of a boner for this kid and I think he’ll surprise a lot of people. I don’t know if he’ll rise up draft boards at all but I think once he gets into the NFL and gets his shot, he could turn into one of the biggest steals of this draft.
16) Brent Urban, DT/DE, Virginia Urban is another physical freak standing at 6’7’’, 295. He’s a bit slimmer but he’s very quick for his size. He has the strength and quickness to be a very disruptive force in the backfield but he’s still raw and needs time to develop.
17) Derrick Hopkins, DT, Virginia Tech Hopkins is a bit short but he’s strong and quick. Not particularly great in any aspect of the game but definitely serviceable.
18) Calvin Barnett, DT, Oklahoma State Barnett is a solid run defender but falls short when it comes to getting to the QB. Looks to me like a rotational guy with some solid upside. Good developmental pick.
19) Bruce Gaston, DT/NT, Purdue Gaston is physical and good at plugging up holes. Solid in run defense and average in pass rushing. If Gaston can bulk up some he could be a very nice project pick for a 3-4 team looking for a future NT.
20) Kerry Hyder, DT, Texas Tech Hyder has talent but he’s a major tweener when it comes to the NFL. He either needs to bulk up to play inside or show some improved speed and pass rushing abilities and move to the outside. Either way, he’s got the talent, just needs to show he can go one way or the other.
21) Caraun Reid, DT/NT, Princeton Reid has solid size, strength, quickness and intelligence. He got invited to the senior bowl so hopefully between that, the combine and workouts he can shine to his full potential. I have him at the bottom of my list right now but I could see him moving up quickly.
