Its been ongoing for 7 years to mark the beginning of the Whitehorse Chinese New Year Festival in a heavily chinese suburb, its a public relations stunt that is suddenly creating mass virtue signalling from the right who have never give a damn before.
China is australia's strongest trade partner and we get a lot more chinese over here than you do, i interact with a lot of chinese people, oppression is in the eye of the beholder.
Most chinese support the regime or it would have been overthrown.

Americans bang on about what china did to its people whilst ignoring what you did to native americans, australians ignore what we did to aboriginals, every nation has blood on its hands and every nation has oppression, we are arguing about how much is the ideal amount.

Imagine a giant corporation bending to the will of a dictatorship for fear of a loss of capital being presented as a problem with communism.

Even at the most generous you can maybe concede to Deng Xiaoping's characterisation of the new Chinese Republic as being a Market Socialist economy. The idea that the Communist Party is actually communist in any sort of real way is laughable. On the flipside this situation is ALL about capital.

Chinese sponsors have been severing ties with U.S. basketball league following a tweet by Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey supporting the protesters in Hong Kong, which he quickly deleted over the weekend.

Anta said in a statement on social media platform Weibo the company opposes any action that harms China’s interests and was dissatisfied with the comments by the Houston Rockets and NBA executives. The company did not provide details on the nature of the contract that was being negotiated.

Anta has endorsement contracts with several NBA athletes including as Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson and Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward.




It looks like China is helping the NBA make the right decision.
