New Zealand's vaccination rate is a lot higher than in the U.S., so this comparison doesn't hold up to scrutiny. In particular, there's FAR less unvaccinated adults in NZ than in the US. The rates of hospitalization, ICU occupancy and deaths per 100k infections will be magnitudes lower in NZ.

The comparison with car speeds isn't bad faith at all. Just like with covid measures, it hinges on the tradeoff between societal inconvenience & loss of quality of life and the prevention of bodily harm.

Yeah it sucks. Gavaging mice twice a day for months at a time is total ass, but it's rewarding when you sit down and look at the plots and it really obviously worked and you get to move to phase I trials. If it gets past Phase I and goes to be a real treatment I'll be able to say that I did all the mouse work to validate it. It'll be really personally fulfilling.
