if you guys could only sign one of petey/hughes who would you prefer to sign?
seems comparables are coming in around the 9m range and nucks dont have 18m to pay the two tsn is saying they have 16m cap friendly says 10m
if they can get them to like 7-8m it could work but 9m is pushing it unless they get like 7m and 9m sorta deal

and are you worried if they sign one and dont have the cap space for the other that an offersheet comes out?
or do you think somebody gets traded?

We'll sign both, I'm not worried. Just might take longer than one would hope.

If you had to pick one you pick Pettersson because he's pretty much already shown he can 1C whereas Hughes may never be good enough defensively to be a 1D.

16.2M cap space is the correct number after LTIR and other paperwork which should be enough to sign both, one to a long-term deal and one to a bridge (something like 8 and 7 or 9 and 6, I dunno what the combination will be).

There's a rumor that the Hughes deal is already done but they are waiting for Pettersson so that other teams don't know how much cap space we have left after signing Hughes (to protect Pettersson from an offer sheet).

Even if canucks have 30m to sign both, it would still take long like right now. Just like boeser and horvat's contracts. It just makes it extra hard than usual because Petey big brained and gained huge leverage by hiring the same agent as Hughes so the firm needs to balance both out, rather than competing who gets done first via diff agents. 7.5 x 3 for Petey and 7-8.x x 7+ for Hughes seems more than fair. Brisson/Barry are trying to push for themselves and clients for more imo.
If picking 1 of 2, it would definitely be Petey. The team suffers way too much without him than without Hughes. You rarely see a single player making a noticeable difference like that.

Also oel/poolman looked good in camp, Lockwood and Hoglander also impressed. Gajovich looks like he improved his skating and scored a lot of goals past Demko.

Yooooooooo

I am so beyond fed up with Benning. This really feels like a disaster having not signed both of them yet... and still taking PTOs? The fuck

The culture has really changed in recent years.

Before it was common for players to get the big contract after winning, or at least having considerable playoff success.

Now young guys are getting paid huge money after one good season.

Definitely not a good look, even if bag skating doesn't mean much to oel. However this is just typical Vancouver media things, once he gets the views/goes viral he clarifies it further

Seems like he and poolman will be the pairing, they looked great apparently.

All the new faces struggled in the bag skate compared to the ones that already have done it before. Garland carries on the burfing tradition stecher left behind. Sedin even said expect the media to talk about it for weeks haha

I'm more concerned about juolevi. He got hit the hardest with covid, no idea if he has severe lingering affects compared to the others that had the virus. He's currently fighting for a job with rathbone and hunt for the last spot, it's his last year to prove it... Yet he chooses to lay flat on his back & stomach on the ice. It's not his first time in greens camp and trained for it in the off season like lockwood and gadjovich has. Miller and other vets skkated over to tell him to get up, since it's a bad look with media and fans around etc. He continues to do it, by changing positions...

it's not a good look for someone who's expected to "turn over a new leaf" to not be fully conditioned coming into camp. the team's window to make some noise probably won't be longer than 2 seasons, and it doesn't look good for everyone else when the biggest earner is behind the 8-ball.

juolevi is probably done altogether. unlucky with covid but everyone knew it was coming before that.
