tough spot for both blizzard and the NBA.

china is a massive market and the govt can shut off access with the flip of a switch.

as much as i'd like to see them tell china to suck nuts i can understand why they dont. NBA can lose china, i suppose. but if blizzard is outlawed in china they lose like 30% of their profits. that's an insane moral stand to take for a company already spiraling the drain on profits.

Tbh I'm pretty convinced old Blizzard (pre-Activision merger) would have at least treated the incident better. Mike Morhaime had at least some integrity.

China is maximum oligarch capitalism and authoritarianism. It hasn't been remotely communist since Deng.

This whole situation is capitalists listening to the money talk.

China is proving to them that oligarchic capitalism and authoritarianism is more profitable than gently regulated market economies and democracy, so of course the capitalists are shifting their allegiances.

they got nice (and well-earned) paydays and dipped, rightfully so. activision will say how high when they get told to jump by china
