I'm going to rank and give a quick analysis of some of the top talents per position in this year's draft. I am going to make a new thread for each position and will keep old threads listed in each new thread.
Keep in mind, this is purely my opinions. I am not saying this will be the order, this will be how players turn out or anything along those lines, it's just simply my own personal thoughts.
If you'd like a specific position to be done next, feel free to post, I don't mind jumping around. If not, I'll go in order (QB, WR, RB, TE, OT, etc...)
Offensive Tackle:1) Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan – There’s plenty of argument for Fisher and Joeckel to be the top tackle in this draft, but I give the nod to Fisher out of pure personal preference. He’s versatile being able to play both tackle and guard spots. He’s big, strong, quick, can block for the run and the pass. He’ll be a franchise left tackle for a team for years and years to come.
2) Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M – As I said, Joeckel or Fisher, it’s a toss-up. Really should be 1a and 1b but it is what it is. Joeckel, like Fisher, will be a franchise left tackle for many years for whoever drafts him. He’s big and physical, can drop back to block speed rushers or over power bull rushers. He can block for the pass or run and is one of, if not the top talents in this draft.
3) Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma – Johnson is finally getting some recognition. He was underrated all year and is now having his name thrown in there right behind Fisher and Joeckel. He has good size already but has room to add some weight to his frame. He can easily play LT in the NFL but he’d be a top notch RT as well.
4) D.J. Fluker, OT/G, Alabama – Fluker was considered the weak point of the Alabama offensive line but he’s been helping his stock as of late. He’s an incredible run blocker but he struggles in pass protection at times. He could easily make the move inside to guard but with tackle being the more valuable position, I believe any team who takes him will plug him in as a tackle.
5) Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State – Watson is an incredible athlete with great size and very quick feet. He’s going to be able to immediately start at RT and with some proper coaching, should be able to easily make the move to LT.
6) Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina – Williams will probably never be able to play LT in the NFL, he just doesn’t have it in him, but he can be a Pro Bowl caliber RT. He’s got great size, lacks some mobility but not to the point where he’s inept in that area.
7) Brian Winters, OT, Kent State – Winters is my sleeper tackle of the year. He’s a bit undersized at 6’3’’ but he’s got good strength and instincts. He dominated any and all competition that he had while playing for Kent State and has all the tools and abilities to do so in the NFL. His size is the only concern as I said, he may have to make the move to guard.
8) Oday Aboushi, OT, Virginia – Aboushi was one of the only bright points for Virginia this year. He’s got solid size, strength and speed, he can improve his run blocking but his pass protection is superb.
9) Kyle Long, OT/G, Oregon – Long comes from a great bloodline (father Howie Long, brother Chris Long) and has great size and quickness. He may have to move inside though because his arms are a little short but I think he could be a successful RT.
10) David Bakhtiari, OT, Colorado – Bakhtiari needs to add some weight but he will make for a solid offensive lineman. He’s not going to be going to the Pro Bowl year in and year out, but he won’t be riding the pine much either.
11) Chris Faulk, OT, LSU – Faulk’s stock is still a little low due to him missing the season due to injury. He has the size and talent to be a solid player in the NFL but he needs to show off his skills once again and impress coaches at the combine.
12) Justin Pugh, OT, Syracuse – Pugh is a quality pass protector but struggles in the run blocking. He’s a bit small for tackle and has shorter arms. He should move inside to guard.
13) Xavier Nixon, OT, Florida – Nixon is going to be a hit or miss player. He’s either going to be great as he was at times when he showed flashes of absolute brilliance or he’s going to forever be only a depth guy, coming in only in extreme circumstances.
14) Ricky Wagner, OT, Wisconsin – Wagner’s stock has fallen pretty hard. I had him as a second round talent early on in the season but now he’s maybe a 5th round prospect. He’s inconsistent in pass protection and not a whole lot better in run blocking. He was destroyed by the better talent he faced and will be best fit moving to guard. He might be able to play RT but I don’t have much confidence.
15) Jordan Mills, OT, Louisiana Tech – Mills will need some time to develop a bit more at the NFL level but he has all the makings of a talented NFL tackle. He has the size to fight off powerful pass rushers and the quick feet to keep up with the speed rushers, the physical tools are there, just needs some time.
16) Tanner Hawkinson, OT, Kansas – Hawkinson is going to be a nice third day developmental RT pick. He’s not ready to start but given some time, he can turn into a very solid and sound NFL tackle.
