When I say (and maybe him too) meta doesn't matter it doesn't mean it has 0 effect on everything. It means that you can play non-meta and still hit challenger, therefore you can't blame meta for your problems. If you can't climb it's because you lack skill.
That's why Dopa is saying "you can win regardless of meta if you play well"
"Gold Funneling" has been around for a really long time. Dopa thinks it's a coincidence that it became "meta" in 8.10. It wasn't a coincidence that it coincided with the jungle nerfs of 8.10. Because jungle was gutted in 8.10 it's just now more often better to have a fed carry+second support over 2 carries( because the jungle "carry" is so weak) then it was in previous patches.
The bot lane meta has very little to do with the power of ADCs and everything to do with the fact people copy other players. With riot finally actually trying to make ADCs balanced pro teams have been asking their ADCs players learn other non-marksman champs, then the master/challenger players see that and copy it. Diamond players see this and copy it and within a few weeks everyone is doing it.
If you play for the meta as a silver 3 player you will be able to climb a bit. If you play like it doesn't matter you'll likely fall. If you keep picking Jinx into kill lanes you will lose LP it doesn't matter if you're challenger or Bronze 4. The meta effects you no matter your rank and this is a constant.
