First thrift pickup after a
long
drought:
Ar Nosurge; Ode to an Unborn Star - PS3
A somewhat hard to find PS3 game!
Ar Nosurge is part of the Ar Tonelico series.
It is a pretty obscure JRPG series that started on the PS2.
Tbh, I don't know much about this series..
I think it is a turn-based RPG with social sim elements.
I have no real interest in playing this game lol.
I'm sure it has good mechanics, but it is way too anime heavy.
I like the JRPGs but really just the ones from the early console generations.
When a game leans on anime fandom too much, it turns me off.
This one does it in spades.
I popped it in my PS3 to test it and the opening theme is like a full blown OVA lol
To be clear, I do enjoy some anime.
Just not the ones with over-sexualized young girls in it
Picked this up from Goodwill for $3.
Pretty sweet deal; the game usually goes for ~$50.
It was a late release on the PS3 and obscure JRPG series tend to hold their value.
Money Spent: $2446
Total Sales: $2380
Profit:
-$66

Couple new pickups:
Pokepark 2: Wonders Beyond - Wii
Didn't know this game existed, tbh.
Came across is at Goodwill for $3.
It stuck out because it wasn't among the normal shovelware titles I often see at thrift stores.
Also, Pokemon games are usually worth a little something.
I like Pokemon well enough,
although I really only like the original gen GB games.
This, unfortunately, is nothing like that lol
I think it is a series of minigames with a loose story tying it together.
I think it reviewed poorly as a game created for kids.
But at least the graphics are pretty good for a Wii game.
It goes for ~$20 complete.
Just some resale fodder for me
The rest of these games I picked up at a local fleamarket:
SNK Arcade Classics Vol 1 - Wii
I don't collect much for Wii..
I use my Wii mainly for GameCube games and a few virtual console games
But some games I am happy to keep around.
Particularly retro compilations like this.
Really happy to play Metal Slug and Shocktroopers with a GameCube controller
It has a few lesser known SNK titles thrown in too
Well, I'm not familiar with them anyway.
Overall, it is a solid compilation.
I was surprised to see it is a pretty cheap game too.
If you like arcade games, I highly recommend it.
Blaster Master: Blasting Again - PS1
Tony Hawk 3 - PS1
Tony Hawk 2 (Disc Only) - PS1
Really happy to find a copy of Blaster Master
I saw it on an episode of GameSack and wanted to try it ever since.
It's actually a really cheap game (like ~$10)
Just never sought it out until I found it in the wild
It's in the short-lived Blaster Master Series which stared on the NES
The NES game is s a cult classic, but this one is rarely talked about.
It has a great 'PS1 look'; I love the graphics.
The gameplay is really fun too.
Its a tank battler with very quick and twitchy action.
Blaster Master is renowned for being able to jump out of the tank and fight enemies on foot.
Very novel for the NES era.
I don't know if that can happen here.. I've only played about 30 minutes of it.
Either way, I enjoy what I have played so far.
I don't have many games like this so I am happy to have it.
Love the Tony Hawk series.
But I already have these games (albeit on other platforms).
They were cheap (like ~1$ each).
These games were spiking up in price with the recent remaster release.
But it's not a homerun pickup or anything.
I'll try to flip them to get my money back on the lot.
Got these 5 games for $16.
Not too shabby.
Money Spent: $2462
Total Sales: $2380
Profit:
-$82

Impulse buy at my local game store:
Legend of Mana (Disc Only) - PS1
I don't collect for the SNES, like at all..
But Secret of Mana is one of my all time favorite games.
I love the art style and action combat a lot.
I have never played any other Mana games.
I picked up Sword of Mana like 6 months ago but still haven't gotten to it
Either way, I am really interested in the other games in the series.
Legend of Mana has a great aesthetic and looks really fun.
It is kind of a pricey game... but this copy was selling for $20.
I decided to jump on it. Even though it is disc only. QQ
Legend of Mana seems to be a pretty polarizing game.
Reviews I've seen either love it or hate it.
For $20, I'm happy to give it a try.
If I don't like it, I can flip it for a small profit anyway.
Money Spent: $2482
Total Sales: $2380
Profit:
-$102
Oof, I need to hold off on purchases until I recoup some money.
I have quite a bit in the 'resale pile' but been too busy/lazy to sell things.
After the holidays I'll make some sales
I need to make a dent in my backlog anyway

Got a couple retro game Christmas gifts:
Beyond Good and Evil - GameCube
Pretty stoked to get a nice copy of this game.
Never played it before, but there is a lot here that seems right up my alley.
Beyond Good and Evil is a cult classic.
I think there is a remake or sequel that recently came out?
Maybe in development? I don't remember.
Anyway, You play as Jane, a kung-fu journalist set out to foil a conspiracy.
It looks a lot like a 3D Zelda Game, with quick combat and puzzles.
But the main mission is to sneak into secret areas and document photos
This was not GameCube exclusive.
Of course, the GameCube version is the most expensive version though
I look forward to playing this one!
Mr Driller - Dreamcast
Oh boy oh boy.
I have wanted this game for yearrsssss
I have a lot of nostalgia with this game, but never owned an official version.
Arcades were kind of dead when I was a kid.
But one of my few arcade memories is centered around this game.
I went to a birthday party at GameWorks (a big arcade chain) in Dallas at ~11 years old.
Around the corner was this weird game with a joystick and one giant button.
It was of course, Mr. Driller!
I spent what felt like hours playing only this game.
It took me years to remember what the game was called.
Eventually I found out when I was 16 or so, but thought it was exclusive to the arcade.
I played the shit out of a knock-off flash version online.
I didn't know a Dreamcast version existed until a few years back.
Mr Driller is nothing crazy. It is actually a really simple puzzle game.
The best analogy I can think of is upside down tetris.
Mr. Driller has to dig down through blocks to reach as low as possible.
As time goes on, you run low on oxygen and need to pick up oxygen packs along the descent.
It's simple, it's cute, but challenging and addictive.
I have played this game a lot the last 2 weeks lol
It is actually pretty uncommon to find.
I think it sold <20,000 copies.
For that reason, it is a little pricey.
Nothing too crazy, but around $60 for a puzzle game is hard to justify.
I'm so happy to finally have it though!
It is always nice to get some retro gems as a gift

Small pickup from Half Priced Books:
The Munchables - Wii
Kind of a random pickup.
I had never heard of this game before..
It caught my attention as a Bandai-Namco game though
That, and it has this weird rainbow turd pile on its spine art 💩:
Turns out it as relatively hard to find budget title game.
It looks pretty decent, tbh.
I watched some reviews and people say it is like a simplified Katamri game.
You eat things, get bigger, and it allows you to eat things you couldn't before, etc etc.
Seems kind of shallow in content but plays well and looks really good.
It holds a little bit of value.
Nothing crazy, but better than most random Wii games.
Got it for $2. For that price, I'll squeeze a little profit out of it
Money Spent: $2484

Latest GameCube pickup from an online auction:
Blood Omen 2 - GameCube
Gun - GameCube
Bloodrayne - GameCube
Defender - GameCube
Second Sight - GameCube
True Crime; Streets of LA - GameCube
Prince of Persia; The Two Thrones - GameCube
King Arthur - GameCube
Blowout - GameCube
Robotech; Battlecry - GameCube
Paid $60 for the lot.
These aren't 'premium' titles, but a good deal overall.
Some games are in kind of rough shape..
But at least it's not all shovelware.
A couple of highlights in here:
Second Sight is an interesting FPS/stealthgame.
It mixes things up by having psychic powers at your disposal.
I haven't played it yet, but it kind of looks like Psi-ops for the PS2.
Gun looks like a generic title..
But it is a western 3rd person shooter that looks interesting.
It reminds me of a precursor to the Red Dead games.
While the Red Dead games are obviously amazing, they are super long.
Gun seems like an abbreviated version of that kind of game.
I tend to prefer a shorter and more linear experiences than open world.
Bloodrayne is a hyper-violent and fast-paced fps/beat-em-up.
You basically hack down enemies and their limbs go flying lol
It's pretty cheap to pick up, but I'm not sure why.
It is pretty fun and seems ahead of its time.
There are a couple games I already have in this lot:
Robotech and Blowout.
I'll sell them to recoup some money.
Not gonna make all my money back lol
But pretty happy with this pickup
Money Spent: $2544
Total Sales: $2483
Profit:
-$61
