Grabbed a couple new games from my local game store:

Cold Fear - Playstation 2

Kind of surprised to find this game cheap.
It's a lesser known survival horror game.
Being a Ubisoft game, it's not too rare or anything.
But definitely a sleeper gem.

It's standard survival horror affair.
But it is set on a ship with pretty interesting physics.
Waves crash into you on the deck.
Objects shift around as you traverse the lower floors.

Overall, it seems like a pretty solid game!
It just came out right around RE4 was released..
Hard to compete with one of the greatest games ever made.

It carriers a bit of value (~$40).
Really I picked it up just to check it out and flip it :)

Mercury Meltdown Revolution - Wii

This is a super cheap budget title for the Wii.
But this is no crap shovel ware game!

It is puzzle game where you guide a blob of mercury though a maze.
It's kind of a hybrid of Marble Madness and Fluidity.
The puzzles are solid.
The motion controls work great.
This game is honestly better quality than it deserves.

It's not a masterpiece by any means..
but I really like these simple pickup and play games.
Happy to add a fun (and cheap) game to my Wii library :)

Final Fantasty 9 (Black label) - Playstation 1

I have played many FF games, but never 9!
Picked this up about a week ago and I'm already 10 hours in lol
It's been a really enjoyable game so far.
It's a new experience to me but also feels very nostalgic.

This is really a great affordable JRPG.
The retro market has been crazy lately and many games have doubled in price.
It's refreshing to pickup something good without breaking the bank.

Traded in Command and Conquer (PS1) and 007 Rogue Agent (Gamecube) + $27.
I was really looking forward to CoC but it is almost unplayable without a mouse..
Overall, very happy with this pickup :)

Went to my first garage sale of the year today!
Kind of random, I don't normally see sales on Thursday.
Found a couple cool things:

Paper Mario Color Splash - Wii U

This sale had a nice little pile of Wii U games..
Breath of the Wild, DK tropical Freeze, Splatoon, etc.
Unfortunately, each game was priced at $10.
I don't have a Wii U and I'm not too interested in collecting for it.
Anything I pick up on the system will just be to resell.
At $10, Paper Mario was the only one really worth picking up.

...I may regret that decision a few years from now lol

Anyway, Paper Mario games are pretty cool!
I haven't played many of them (only Super Mario RPG and 64).
But they are interesting RPG-like games in the Mario Universe.
I would love to get the GameCube version...
but online prices have gone up to +$100 <_<

Don't know much about this game.
But I think I can make a little profit off of it :)

I also picked up a roached to shit Wii (console only)

They said they found it in their storage shed and didn't know if it worked.
I gambled on it and bought it for $5.

Even though it is gross, it works!
It was mostly just covered in dirt lol
Cleaned up nice, and even had a copy of Just Dance in the tray 🕺:

Not bad for the first stop of the year :)

Couple new pickups:

NBA Live 2005 - GameCube

It's been a while since I've seen a GameCube game at Half Priced Books
Keep in mind, the HPB in my town is actually an outlet.
So they just get spill over from things that haven't moved at other locations.
Really, that just means they get average games but sell them for way cheap.

They had a small stack of GameeCube sports games for $2 each.
This was the only one complete and in an original case.

I don't particularly enjoy these old sports games.
But I'm happy to pick up one I don't have for the right price.
Its fun to check out the old rosters and see how the game changes year to year.
But otherwise, this will likely just sit on my shelf lol -_-

It's weird seeing a young Carmelo Anthony not all tatted up.

Record of Lodoss War - Dreamcast

Picked this up online for $65.
A decent deal, but not a thrift price by any means.

I have been following the D2 resurrected hype.
I have sworn off playing D2 ever again because I have lost too much time to that game lol
But I have been itching to play a dungeon crawler again.

Record of Lodoss war is heavily inspired by D2.
It is a classic dungeon crawler where you grind to improve gear.
Look, it even pitches to Diablo fans on the back cover lol:

This game wasn't cheap, but I'm happy to have it in my collection.
It looks great and isn't easy to find.

I'm really looking forward to playing it :)

It's that time again for a yearly update on the collection.
Tbh, I'm surprised I have kept this thread going for 4 years!
Although there have been a couple breaks here and there.

My direction has really changed since I starting collecting games.
I started out just grabbing whatever,
Now I have become more focused on collecting for a few systems.
Primarily, I am still trying to amass the entire NA GameCube library.
To that end, I now have 152 games or 27% of the full list

I've been more in tune with the 'collecting scene' this last year.
There seems to be a lot of pessimism about full set collectors.
Games are meant to be played!!
In general, I agree.

However, it has been fun to just scoop up GameCube games when I find them.
Really, it just means that I don't come home from thrift shops empty as often.
I doubt I will ever get the full set.
Especially since the price of GameCube games have doubled this last year lol
But I am still having fun with it :)

I digress,
This will be a two part post on the state of my collection.

These are not all my games.
But the games I've amassed thrifting with my total investment of +$38:

142 GameCube games:

48 Dreamcast games:

19 Wii games & 10 PS1 games:

13 Sega Saturn Games (Disc Only):

1 Sega Genesis Game
1 PS3 game
1 PC game collection:

Not pictured:

2 Nintendo Wii Consoles
Sega Saturn Console
Dreamcast Console
PS3 backward compatible Console
A couple GameBoy games I'm letting a friend borrow

Crazy how fast it has grown!
The total value of my collection (according to pricecharting.com as of 4/31):
$6122.5

Keep in mind, I don't think my collection is actually worth that much.
It is more of what I would expect to pay if I bought these individually at their going rate.

As a bonus, here is a picture of gaming shelf (with all my games):

Super happy with what I've been able to get over these years.
However, it has gotten a little out of control and cluttered.
I may downsize some this year (been thinking about selling my Saturn)

Anyway, here is to hoping for another successful year of good finds~
