North and South Korea to announce end of war

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/17/north-and-south-korea-reportedly-set-to-announce-official-end-to-war.html

This is genuinely groundbreaking.

But letting evil Kim develop nukes is dangerous derp. He will use them to bring war and chaos, derp.

Once again the DPRK proves imperialist propaganda wrong. Nuclear power and respect for national sovereignty pave the road to peace, not war. Millions of lives have been saved by the leaders of the DPRK.

Weird. I wonder if they are going to go back to being just... Korea?
I think w/o an official "peace treaty". this is probably just talk. Or maybe Kim Jong just has SK believing a bunch of BS. Who knows. :/

Well the DPRK has for a long time advocated for a confederal system. One nation, two states. A strong independent sovereign nation with one army and great economic and industrial cooperation between north and south, but with the DPRK and the ROK being allowed to keep their own political and economic system.

The Great Leader, President Kim Il Sung, talked about several of these principles (regarding a strong Korean nations in which both systems are respected) in this document: http://www.korea-dpr.info/lib/201.pdf

More elaborate discussions regarding unification proposals have been had in several Party congresses, but I don’t have a link to them.

North Korea says will stop nuclear tests, scrap test site

South Korean President Moon said on Thursday North Korea had expressed a commitment to “complete denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula, and had not attached conditions, but Washington had remained wary and vowed to maintain “maximum pressure” on Pyongyang.
The United States said on Thursday that in the run-up to Trump’s planned summit with Kim, countries should continue to put financial and diplomatic pressure on Pyongyang to surrender its banned nuclear weapons.
Many U.S. officials and experts doubt Kim’s sincerity about denuclearizing, viewing the recent flurry of diplomacy as a ploy to win relief from economic sanctions.

Ordinary South Koreans were also cautious after the latest announcement.
“I don’t think we can completely trust anything North Korea says because North Korea isn’t a normal country,” said Kim Han-nuri, 23, out in Seoul on a sunny spring morning.

I Think it is very generous Of Kim Jong to volunteer to shut down the test site that, iirc, they accidentally blew up, last time they used it.

From some MIT trustable guy:

"
Known nuclear tests by regional nuclear powers:
India: 6
Pakistan: 6
North Korea: 6
Israel: 0 or 1
South Africa: 0
DPRK can probably stop where it is and still be fine.
"
Btw nuclear tests =/= ballistic tests...

Seoul, South Korea (CNN)North Korea says its quest for nuclear weapons is "complete" and it "no longer needs" to test its weapons capability, a significant development ahead of diplomatic engagement with both South Korea and the United States.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said Saturday that "under the proven condition of complete nuclear weapons, we no longer need any nuclear tests, mid-range and intercontinental ballistic rocket tests, and that the nuclear test site in northern area has also completed its mission," as quoted by the state-run KCNA news agency.

The announcement appears to signify a remarkable change in policy for Kim, following a relentless pursuit of nuclear and ballistic weapons as a means to ensure his regime's survival -- although some analysts remain skeptical, pointing out that Kim hasn't tested a missile since last November.

The news comes just six days before a meeting between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, a precursor to a much-anticipated planned encounter between Kim and US President Donald Trump, expected to take place at the end of May or beginning of June.

It also comes just weeks after the North Korean leader met Chinese President Xi Jinping on his first official trip outside his country.

The US and South Korea welcomed the news, which they said was a sign of progress and a promising start to upcoming talks.

"North Korea has agreed to suspend all Nuclear Tests and close up a major test site," Trump tweeted. "This is very good news for North Korea and the World - big progress! Look forward to our Summit."

Will Trump get the nobel peace prize before or after he's kicked out of office?

Trump has already stated that he isn't going to let up on the sanctions, unless he gets "verifiable" denuclearization.
I don't think you should waste your time "hoping" that Trump fucks up.

Ain't gonna happen. :/
