I think this deserves a thread properly entitled as war threatens to break out at any moment between the US and NK. This thread is for tracking the events as they happen and discussing their implications.

For those who haven't heard - Putin has moved anti-air missile carriers to Vladivostock near NK border. Perhaps as a response to Beijing's request for Russia to help 'cool the situation'.

The Pentagon is upping it's cyber security in anticipation of increased attacks from NK

NK accuses US of warcrimes in Syria and calls out

Donald Trump’s “serious military hysteria” [which] has reached a dangerous phase where the DPRK will be forced to respond against the US and its allies in such a “merciless manner as not to allow the aggressors to survive.”

This in addition to military parades and further threats of retaliation against US for incursion into NK waters.

Trump is pushing Kim into conflict. I think that at this point war is a likely outcome unless Trump backs down. Kim won't.

My thoughts go out to the servicemen and women stationed in SK and to the people of South Korea at what must be a terrifying time for them.

The real issue honestly has never been the regime. The reason why the US hasn't ever invaded or been aggressive is since the cold war, the US has honored South Korea's desire to escalation to not occur and to hope it can be resolved through diplomacy.

And also even if Kim and the dictatorship is outed, there's an even bigger problem to deal with. China would prefer it that South Korea doesn't gain more power/influence. Korean peninsula being reunited once more would basically result similarly to how great the economic success Germany had after it was reunited with East Germany.

But that type of situation is a better situation than what it is currently.

@ 1: there have been diplomatic attempts by the two koreas to improve the relationship, which have been undermined by the usa
@ 2: the economic success of germany goes back well before the re-unification

One should never be in the military with a Republican President.

If you're going to jump into the bunker every time the DPRK and USA sabre rattle with one another, you best get a lifetime supply of canned beans.

And the economic success of Korea is not a concern for China?

South Korea is the leader of the Tiger economy nations. It freely trades with Europe/China and North America , no other country currently does this.

The reunification of Korea would push Korea to become that much more of a leader in Southeast Asia and force China who has an aging population many other domestic issues unable to compete against a highly socialized and technological giant. Gaining more population , gaining more natural resources, it would cause an effect of South Korea potentially having its economy eclipse China. South Korea might be the most efficient economy in the world.

I have never been worried about actual war between the two 'til now. If you disagree then that's fine. But that doesn't make you superior or give you the right to talk down to someone much more intelligent than you. Your opinion is contrary to that of pretty much everyone with any expertise on the subject.
