definitely...

You could argue for any of these guys pretty much on any award, they are all deserving of a win in one way or another.
Though i find it hard to pick kucherov over McDavid this year. Yeah TB made the playoffs, and EDM didnt. But the award is most valuable player to his respective team.
McDavid factored into 50% of the teams goals over the course of the season, and had almost the same stats as Kucherov.
I think McDavid is more valuable to the Oilers than Kucherov to the Lightning. Tampa has Stamkos, Point, Hedman, Vasilevsky, etc. playing alongside Kucherov, while Edmonton has Draisaitl and McDavid.

its an award that favors total points along with team success

not saying its right, but an easy way to judge a players value is by what he does to vault his team to the playoffs. we both know without mcdacid, edmonton is worse than ottawa, but its like mvp in baseball. if its close, it goes to the playoff guy.

Yup, i think its judged wrong -- along with other awards like the vezina, vasilevski only won cuz he had way more wins than bishop and lehner, but both lehner and bishop had much better numbers.
Tampa had all the firepower of Kucherov, Stamkos, Point, and elite defense in McDonaugh and Hedman, helping Tampa (and by extension Vasilevski) to more wins than the other goalies.

This is the exact reason why literally about any nominee for any award could win lol

it seems like volume is the biggest factor to winning an award. what you do with your opportunities seems more important to me than the amount of opportunities.
i think greiss and khudobin hurt bishop and lehners chances. they prove dallas and nyi play in a strong defensive system where it may not be all about the goalie, where vasi is in a wide open defensive system.

for the record id pick vasi

Agreed. Its no doubt that Vasilevski is probably the best all around goalie in the league right now.
But its hard to say for sure he should get the reward over guys who had better numbers specific to a goalie, where Vasilevski basically won the "best goalie" award based on a more team-oriented stat

yea its team oriented regardless. better team defense leads to better goalie stats. dallas and nyi prove that.

but where is the line for enough volume drawn? 50 starts? 40? where?
