Am I the only one rooting for the series to be a Homelander redemption arc? The way he was treated by Vought, I view him purely as a victim. His lunacy is understandable given his upbringing. Giving someone that much power and responsibility with no emotional development is guaranteed to end badly. This is actually how Superman would have turned out if not the for the Kent's parenting. It seems farfetched that he could turn the corner and start maturing, but if they could pull it off it would make for a great story.

We've seen the gradual decay into moral bankruptcy of The Boys (this episode even had Starlight dipping her toes into the water). Would be cool if the series ended with Seven actually becoming the good guys and the Boys being bad.

everyone in the 7 other than starlight is a complete piece of shit, I don't see how they could possibly redeem all of them and turn them into the 'good guys'

"Was that...?"
"It's okay."
"That's his fucking dick."
"Don't be so closed-minded."

It's weird how they keep bouncing back and forth from the comics. They'll add a beloved character or they'll have an episode where shit happens identically to the comic and the next they're gender-bending and going super weird routes.

Overall I absolutely love the show, it's just weird seeing certain things play-out exactly the same, but in a completely different context. Shit is wild.

There are definitely times with shows/movies that I feel not knowing the source material is better than knowing it. That the case here?

There are a few things that would have been and will be nice to have been surprised by them happening for the first time in the show. But like Stormfront being a super nazi was a sure thing, so I knew she'd end up being as bad or worse than HL. Shit with a few other heroes that I know they're going to do a big reveal on eventually and if the ending plays out like the books, that's going to be one I wish I didnt know about for sure

All in all though, they're so drastically different from one another, that you can enjoy both, but it does suck knowing exactly how some shit is going to play out, even if it's slightly different.

What are people's thoughts on this experimental release format (3 episodes at first, then 1 per week)? The backlash over the release format has generated a lot of discussion.

I saw one interesting perspective on it today. I'm not sure I agree, but it got me thinking:

A weekly releases puts the show under a microscope. Inconsistencies are more likely to stand out if you have to sit on them for a week. Whereas with a full release, everything just kinds of runs together. Your memory of the series tends to just be the high points.

I am starting to think that a weekly release only helps shows that are more intricate. If there is a lot of attention to detail, then it can actually enhance the experience to put each episode under a microscope. I definitely felt this way about the first 4 seasons of GoT. It was rewarding to rewatch episodes because there was more to pick up on. And since the story will fully fleshed out, it could stand up to scrutiny.

In contrast, The Witcher would have probably been hurt badly by a weekly release. I wasn't bothered by any lazy writing or inconsistencies. When I think back on the show, I mainly remember the highpoints: the ending, the porcupine knight getting unmasked AND how hot the chicks were (that Lioness chick and pre-transition Yennefer=yummy).

I'd really like to see some show try releasing 2 episodes per week. I wanna test how that feels.

I kind of disagree with that quote. I find when I binge shows I'm more likely to be like "wait a minute.. But last episode... And now..." Whereas week to week I don't care as much unless it's something pretty big.

I agree some shows benefit from being able to binge them, like the Witcher. But I think the reason for that is different. Like the Witcher does a lot of time fuckery and would have been too hard to follow for the general watcher if it was a weekly release.

I don't really care one way or the other, unless they're is benefit as stated above.

Honestly I'm fine with the boys being weekly, gives me something to look forward to in the television realm. I'm kind of getting tired of the "something good was released, watch it all, now there is literally nothing to do for 5 months until the next interesting thing is released" situation.

I'm not gonna spoil anything but I think at this point there is no chance they follow through with how the comics ended and the big plot twist.
