Well thank God for LBJ's civil rights reforms. Those shouldn't be considered left wing, rather a neutral act of morality.

LBJ's great society programs contained a shitton of left-leaning legislation which had nothing to do with basic civil rights. I'm not saying that the introduction of programs like medicare and medicaid, to name just one example, was a mistake. But compared to the status quo of the time, they nonetheless presented a massive shift to the left.

I'm not disagreeing with you and how did we get here? The whole thing I was saying about Biden and the Democrats is obvious post-LBJ era. The party is shifting back to what it was.

You can’t claim fiscal responsibility when they seek to expand programs that are much costlier than the tax cuts.

This is the same level of stupidity that viewed the amazon tax breaks as money given to corporation so instead let’s actually spend that money when we never had it.

I agree, I'm just saying it's not strictly a leftist position to oppose tax cuts. The reality that Americans are going to have to face one day is reducing the deficit will require tax raises and spending cuts. Almost no politicians support doing both.

Dunno why... but it's fun to hate on Bill de Blasio.

I guess the point where we disagree is the implicit assumption behind that article that I linked: that the massive shift of the Democratic party to the left in recent years is unhealthy, not good and not a return to normalcy as you put it.
You're right when you point out that the Democratic party was at its most progressive and pro-big-government during the LBJ-era, and that it had moved to the right without a break from the early 70s until Obama's election in 2008.

But I think that the shift to the left under Obama should not be discarded here. A good chunk of the turf that the Democrats had given up between 1970 and 2008 was already reclaimed during Obama's tenure.
On top of that, I strongly disagree with the notion that the LBJ-era, which was when Democrats were at their most progressive of the last 70 years, should be used as the neutral point from which the political spectrum is defined.

You want to erase the left from reality. Typical of fascists. I think we're done here.

And it won't happen. We will monetize the debt eventually. It will likely be many decades in the future and likely we'll form a common economic zone in the Americas with a common currency and this will save the United States from absolute ruin while on the brink of complete failure as a nation. Thanks to our current system of robber baron capitalism.
