A state is the governing body of a collection of people. The amalgamation of legislatures, governors, court systems, etc make up the state and exist to provide legal representation and recourse for the citizens of an area. DC has no legislature, no governor, no courts. It is a town. The notion that a town deserves the same representation as the governments of the several states is pretty preposterous.
You are stating the way it is now, but that's not necessarily how it needs to be.
Why should any specific town not have legislature, a governor or courts? And if DC is not big enough to be a state, should it not be part of a state?
It makes perfect sense in the historical context as explained by
, but now that a significant number of people are living there I don't see it.
