i think if the founders had foresight they'd have made a wall around a 10 sq mile area for DC and not let it expand. then the metropolitan area we have today would be under state jurisdiction. kind of like a Kansas City split in Kansas and Missouri situation.

Tbh not sure why east of the anacostia is DC. That should be given back the MD like Arlington was given back to VA

You seem to not understand the most powerful governmental body and it’s duty. Sadly, you are right, I don’t think a majority of the population does either.

Not really equal?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_(polity)

Not a geographic area in the sense of representation in the Senate, a polity.

I took a class on the US Constitution in college, but now I'm typing on a video game forum.

Put the maglite away, big guy.

A state is the governing body of a collection of people. The amalgamation of legislatures, governors, court systems, etc make up the state and exist to provide legal representation and recourse for the citizens of an area. DC has no legislature, no governor, no courts. It is a town. The notion that a town deserves the same representation as the governments of the several states is pretty preposterous.

You are stating the way it is now, but that's not necessarily how it needs to be.

Why should any specific town not have legislature, a governor or courts? And if DC is not big enough to be a state, should it not be part of a state?

It makes perfect sense in the historical context as explained by , but now that a significant number of people are living there I don't see it.

This town has a city council and a mayor, like pretty much every other city in the country.
