Imagine Trump was still president and was feuding with the governors of Maryland and Virginia (both Democrats) - a not entirely unreasonable notion. Then imagine the governors instructing their state police to apprehend or harass the president as he travelled through their state. Would the other 48 states not be justifiably upset that another state was interfering with their concerns in government?

The fact that this is even a discussion point shows that the country has far bigger problems than the statehood of Washington D.C.

A state should produce value for the commonwealth if it's to get a seat at the voting table. DC is the opposite.

It makes sense to give them proportional house of reps representation. What democrats want though (and its them who are pushing for this) is senators as well.

They aren’t happy with winning only some elections but are trying to make structural changes to things like states like the scotus expansion that will basically tilt the scales in their favor for decades.
