isn't the R talking point.. free markets? since when is R on the side of breaking up big business' D champion that all the time and get called commies..
I forget all rules go out the window to defend victim master trump
1. Antitrust laws are bipartisan.
2. When it comes to a utility, support for immunities (and the resulting neutrality and protection of privacy) support is also bipartisan.
3. The "platform" protection provided to everything from search engines such as google, bing, etc. to social media platforms such as YouTwitFace are similar to that of Utilities. If they're behaving as publishers instead, then they deserve to be treated as publishers. During the W. Bush Presidency this was a DEMOCRAT talking point. And I agreed with it then. And I STILL agree with it today.
"Free Market" does not mean a tiny handful of giant companies can monopolize the entire landscape, be granted immunity to do whatever the fuck they want when it comes to limiting freedom of communication and expression, and all's well.
The Bill of Rights is literally considered "Human Rights" for all US Citizens. Twitter wants to play the "we need immunity because we really aren't a publisher" then they have to observe the First. If they fail, then they are a publisher, and should be treated as one.
It's a super simple argument. The argument won out with Myspace and Facebook while W. Bush was in office. It even won out while Obama was in office. I don't know why now suddenly the entire left is trying to claim Twitter should be able to violate human rights in the United States. Seems self-defeating. What happens when the first time you mention something negative about China, Twitter permabans your entire ISP?
