The Wuhan lab theory started as a right wing conspiracy theory based on zero evidence. Scientists accidentally getting infected with a naturally occurring virus and accidentally spreading it is SIGNIFICANTLY different than intentional release of a genetically engineered virus. But hey, right-wingers aren't known for nuance or accuracy. I believe it took us 7 years to figure out how SARS transferred to humans and I imagine that it will take a couple years at least before we have confidence in the zoonotic transfer theory. On the other hand, the Chinese having shit quality control so a lab leak is entirely plausible.
the existence of a lab that works on viruses in the same town that was the epicenter for a disease that acts like none we've witnessed before in several key ways isnt "no evidence". its a serious lack of proof, but that type of evidence is enough for cops to investigate if if were a crime. if someone is poisoned by mercury and there's a thermometer factory in town they start there.
