Bernie and AOC are far closer to Latin American socialists than they are to European social democracies. But that makes sense, because we are also far more similar in many ways to those countries.

What policies are you referencing to make this conclusion?

If we take the most notable, like universal healthcare, that's not out of the norm for European social democracies.

Universal healthcare, college access, etc. etc.

Even the GND relies on massive technological investment to make happen which would undoubtedly be a huge boon to the economy.

I understand you think it's ridiculous, but that's because you see a boogeyman instead of the actual policy.

When we compare disposable, after-tax income we find that Americans outpace many of the advanced European democracies. Pew did not include the poorer EU members (e.g. Romania) in the model, or the United States would have been in an even more favorable light.

This isn't to say that there aren't needed improvements to our current model, because there are with respect to infrastructure, health-care (the current insurance oligopoly model is unsustainable), and byzantine regulatory rules that dramatically reduce economic freedom and competition (one of the main reasons the United States has been falling down economic freedom indexes in recent years). But it's a classic case of "grass is greener" to hold Europe up as some Eden with the United States as Paradise Lost.

I'm assuming you mean Europe specifically when you say "the rest of the world", because the actual rest of the world is a pretty terrible place to live by comparison.

u know, left wing economics, such as Scandinavian free trade models.

to be a bit fair, the trumpian wing of the right seems intent on anti-free trade protectionist policy which isnt good for hte economy at all. the only good argument for this economic policy is anti-chinese geopolitical rhetoric, not economically sound theory.

Free trade is good, but free trade needs to be free, as in mutual. With China it clearly isn't, and there are bones to pick with Japan, Korea, and the European union. I disagreed strongly with Trump's decision to leave the TPP, though, as that is exactly the sort of solution that we should be striving towards.

to be quite honest the lack of free trade we get from them is more than offset by the lower worker safety standards and pay standards they maintain to help our corporations' bottom lines.

i dont care how many new Ford Broncos they buy as long as hundreds of thousands of workers die every year in factory accidents or jumping off the roof to end it.

i design robots to literally replace those poor souls.

my points isnt that worker exploitation is good, its that free trade exploitation is offset by worker exploitation.

We need people who don't make assumptions on qualifications... You aren't a thinker, just a weak follower.
