Like I already said, the last time Democrats were actually in the position to pass anything, the party hadnt moved as far to the left yet. Since at least 2014, there was no chance for them to pass anything, so this fact cant be used to argue against their radicalization.

Joe is smart and tailors his message to voters in battlegrounds, which atm happen to all lie between 2 (Michigan) and 5 (Florida) points to the right of the nation as a whole.
The DNC strategists behind Biden also understand that already breaking through now, in 2020, in the blue-trending sun belt states like Texas, Arizona or Georgia would be far more strategically valuable than making the activist base happy.
