looking to upgrade my computer, I was going to aim to do a full build and be on the "bleeding edge", but my situation changed and i don't anticipate that being a think for a couple years, so I'd like to upgrade my motherboard and CPU to a current generation, that can at least be used with the anticipated next generation of AMD 4000 and Intel's next lineup which will most likely be on the 1200 socket as well.

AMD or Intel are fine with me, but I want to be economical. I'd like to keep the changes under $800 CAD if possible.

here is my current build.

My GPU is bottle-necked about 20% by my CPU, so I'd like to avoid this with my upgrade, or swap the bottleneck around, as it'll be a plan to do a GPU upgrade next year hopefully.

I'd just buy a used 7700k and oc it, then sell your old cpu.
No more bottle neck then wait for intels 7nm.

You won't see any real increase buying a new mobo/cpu/ram just a lot of wasted money.

I had a feeling that'd be the opinion.

I was looking into the i5-10600kf as well.

I'm looking for maximum multitasking performance, for streaming at high quality, gaming, discord and being able to still run some browser tabs.

agree with this

what are you struggling with??
are you using 144hz 1440p monitor and trying to achieve 144+ fps?

if that's what you're looking for, ryzen 3600/3700 is more ideal than 10600kf. However, i would still wait for intel's 7nm or ryzen's next shit to make it worth the upgrade. However, if you don't want to wait that long and benefit multitasking right away, get yourself a 3600/3700. It's just a shitty time to buy because the motherboards are out of stock and over priced as shit in canada.

Not worried about that stuff, i don't want to spend money on a i7-7700k, when I can buy a 10th gen or a 3600 ryzen with a b450 motherboard ad be good for the next gen at minimum, that's the trap I keep getting caught in, i do not want to buy anything older generation, i also care for single core performance as well, so thats why I'm still leaning towards intel, as non the less its still king for single threaded applications.

keep em coming, I do love to hear other peoples arguments for things. its helpful.

Well then go intel but AMD is hands down the way to go for multiple core performance which is ideal for streaming.
As secksii outlines prices are retarded vs what your getting right now.

So basically pick your mobo and cpu and get CAS 14 3-3.2k ram with intel

if you were in the states, i would recommend 10600kf over 3600/3700 too. However you're in Canada, and the difference in price is about $150-200.

i would personally use 10600kf over 3600/3700 myself, assuming they cost about the same. Since i value the gaming aspect more than other applications aspect of my computer, plus i always overclock my CPUs.

if you're fine with the $150 difference, and don't mind dropping 500+ on the upgrade then go for it.

What King and I meant about 7700k is that you buy a used one for cheap locally, sell off your 7600k to recoupe some of it back. So you're spending about $50-100 at most as a temporary solution til intel's 7nm releases, instead of these 10th gen refreshes nor buying at a time when prices are retarded af.

gotcha, well I can wait out for a little bit I was just hoping to get some stuff lined up.

I live in a very small community (Barely over 5k, 80% is seniors), pretty far from any large ones, there's no market available to buy used parts here.

seems like you wanna be able to play your games and stream without bottlenecking your computer asap though,

so assuming u dont mind spending up to $800 for an upgrade

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/NN7M7T

comparable to the 3700x, normally i'd pair it with non z board but considering the prices are retarded and it's not much more for this board, u might as well get it. It's a micro size though. go with the KF if you plan on ocing

u can re-use ur ram, it's just high latency (17cas) and 2800 speeds, CPU's benefit from low cas high timings much more than it used to
