Whether it's upheaval or ubi we are all moving towards centralization. This centralization will end up with a global type government and all the plebs will line up to support it so they can get their measly handouts.
Money is not the objective, control is the objective. The Bezos's of the world will end up ruling us. They already do to some extent, but it will be even more pronounced when shit hits the fan with a massive war(s) and they consolidate control afterwards.
But isn't that the basic tenant of civilization in the first place? If you disagree with the core idea that the individual gets protected by subscribing to the tribe, then the very reason for our culture to exist becomes nullified.
We've already evolved to the point that the individual doesn't have to hunt his own food or protect himself from predators. We are relying for our tribe for "handouts" of nearly every important challenge that has existed for most of human history. We sleep soundly in our warm beds with no fear that an enemy tribe is going to murder us in the night.

I would argue that it isn't getting more pronounced. But rather, the changes we see in that area are simply a reaction to changes in the objects that our daily lives entail. Before there was money, there couldn't be "money handouts". Now that the need for money has taken over our need for protection, then it becomes possible for "money handouts" to be a significant and divisive issue.
The changes to our handouts will continue will merely reflect what we are handing out, but not the relative strength of the "tribal protection".

To end, I want to be clear that I would advocate a change that would force people to return to hunting their own food and fighting off their own predators. I realize that that is too extreme of a viewpoint to be taken seriously in a discussion. But as long as someone is ok with "tribal protection" as a basic tenant of civilization, then they'd be philosophically inconsistent to oppose the post-apocalyptic future you describe of plebs lining up to accept handouts from Lord Bezos.
