I wasn't doubting your post, I just hadn't heard about it until today.

I took your tone as incredulity as well.

So we're nearing the end of the Great Obama Recovery of 2008 and likely about to enter a recession.

When you lose the ability to say you elected him for the economy are you just gonna double down on white identity politics and wedge issues like the wall and abortion? Or are ya going to switch to the party that manages the economy better?

The first few years of Bush 2 were pretty good too. But riding coattails only goes so far. This guy can't keep a cabinet except for sycophants.

And the trailer park has had their president. We will see how much better we are for it by the end.

Other people will be voting in this election I would guess. Trump vs Clinton didn't pack the bleachers.

LMAO! "Great Obama Recovery." The most tepid after-shock recovery in US history.

Also, lets not forget that a recovery in inevitable after a big recession. It had to come sooner or later, so it's really no accolade for Obama to have seen a recovery within 8 years of his post-recession presidency. Similarly, the boom period has to end at some point, and there's no shame in it ending after 10 or 11 years.

Simply put, Obama was neither to blame for the crisis he inherited nor to praise for presiding over a tepid recovery. Trump is neither to praise for a good economy he inherited nor to blame for the cycle eventually ending.

What presidents can actually influence is not the occurrence of upswings and downswings, but their intensity and timing.
Obama has to bear some blame for the sluggish recovery, Trump has to get some praise for kicking the economy into overdrive and probably having extended the boom cycle for a couple of years. He also has to carry some blame for his trade wars potentially having ended the bull market a bit earlier than necessary.

Austerity is a good way to cause a recession.
