Hey all, hoping to get some input/suggestions on some new RAM and a larger SSD for my laptop. I tend to leave slot of RAM-heavy tabs open while I'm gaming for reference etc. I'm looking for the best bang for my buck that wont break the bank. I know the MB can support up to 32gbs of ram. From what I saw most 32gb kits are a little out of my price range. Was thinking of swapping the 4gb stick for another 8, to make a total of 16, but if I can get a good deal on something bigger i will. The major components are a breeze to swap out on it. A buddy of mine mentioned using and external SSD which could be compatible due to the 3.1 Type C port that is on the Lappy. Obviously I wouldn't boot from an external drive. I appreciate any and all help ad I'm not super educated with the building aspect of pcs.

EDIT: Alot of people over the interwebs have been saying "Dude, why'd you buy a gaming laptop" "Haha I'm gonna laugh when it doesnt last more than a year"

I bought it because its what I wanted, I currently dont have my own place so the portability is great. When I do get my own place in the next few months I'm totally going to build my own set-up. And if it only lasts a year which I highly doubt then so-be-it.

If you need any more info feel free to PM or post, pretty sure i covered everything.

Current specs

Buy a matched set...of w/e total size you want to end up with. YOu have 12GB, correct? Well if you want 16GB you buy 2x8GB sticks. If you want 32GB you buy 2x16GB or 4x8GB (if you have 4 RAM slots).

If you scroll down at that link you will see the 1TB SSD as well.

/e I don't think they are showing you this KIT, because it might lessen their chance to sell the 32GB kit.

/ee From what they ARE showing you....it seems there are two RAM slots in your laptop.

/eee No, you can't just buy a 16GB stick and add it to your 8GB stick. Well, you shouldn't. Your specs say you have 12GB of RAM, not 8GB.

He has an 8 and a 4 he just needs a second 8 if he wants 16. provided he only has 2 dimms.

Better hope those random 8GB sticks have the same density IC chips on them.

why cause he'll have to buy a second stick possibly?
I mean if he's trying to save some money I don't see how it hurts to try...
