it's been slowly getting there the last 20ish years

Obama signed Rosa's law about 8 years ago which gets it off federal wording

as someone that works with the mentally ill and disabled I can say unfortunately it's still used way too often

there is no universal stopping of the word people still use it and there was no moment in time where everyone universally condemned it

What's the politically correct term for it now? Mentally challenged? Downs?

I was watching a television show on FX (a pretty main stream network) they blurred out the word retarded, which wasn’t being used towards anyone with disability’s, just a guy asking about another gentleman who was acting strangely.

That same scene they let “did you fuck my fucking mom Santa?” go without any beeps. Was said multiple times.

I found this quite odd. I’m not advocating talking shit to disabled people, but pc culture is changing things it seems.

I can understand how it can be minor to many especially when it's not truly meant to offend that specific group of people

personally I think friends should be able to talk to each other however they want but in public it would be nice if people were considerate and more kind with their words as we never know who might hear us and once again they feel like lessers in one way or another
