i've been having cpu overheating problems when playing POE

I'm using AMD FX-8320 8core 3.50 Hz processor

is this a problem with my cooler or my cpu?

I reseated my cpu last week, and air'd my components, and problems still persist.

not sure if i need to replace my cooler with a new one or get a new cpu or just get a new computer

did you remove old thermal paste and reapply new one, and evenly tightened the CPU cooler against your CPU?

yes, to the best of my abilities

btw hi

i guess one thing i am asking is... is my cpu too weak to be playing a game like POE? or is it suprising that it overheats while playing POE?

Your CPU should not overheat all the way up to 100% usage. There is no option for a CPU to go past 100% usage. It can be overclocked, but it's top usage will still be only 100%.

This is how you need to think, when discussing CPU temps. It's temp per usage not just temp. You don't need to mess around with a game to see if the CPU is overheating. A benchmark that runs the CPU at 100% will run the CPU as hard as any game can.

As for reseating a CPU cooler. ALL the old thermal compound must be removed. The best way to do that is 90%+ Isopropyl alcohol and a coffee filter. Once all is removed, then you can apply new TC and reseat the cooler. There is a video in my profile about how TC spreads. WHILE you are reseating the cooler, you can't place it and pull up and reseat. That will create microscopic air bubbles. You must seat it once, the right way, the first time.

Another possible cause of CPU temps that are too high...is CPU voltage being too high. I run an FX 8350 on air cooling and even with Prime 95 running for hours, I can't get it to overheat. BUT, I have putzed around in the BIOS and with benchmarks, getting the lowest possible stable CPU voltage.

i'm gonna try reseating it one more time then.

how can i tell if my cpu voltage is too high and how can i fix it?

Get a program like Prime 95. Go into the BIOS, take the CPU voltage OFF Auto, set it to1.28v and then run Prime 95 for 20 mins. If it doesn't blue screen or freeze up, turn the CPU voltage down to 1.27 and run Prime again.
When you get it to where it blue screens or freezes, just turn the CPU volts up .01v.

Then to be sure, run Prime 95 for like...an hour. For the FX 8320 you want to go by the core temps. They shouldn't get over 62C.... EVER.

It's OK for AMD

/e Well, at least for Bulldozer, etc. You can also use AIDA 64, but you'll get slightly lower temps. Which isn't really a good way to set the CPU voltage.
