Tamir Rice was a tragedy. I don't recall all the specifics of how the officer handled the situation, but if you've taken the tip off of a fake gun (which is there in bright orange for YOUR OWN SAFETY), you pose a threat. At that point there is no way for the police to tell the difference between a toy and an active gunman situation, and with how many shootings there have been recently on school property (or was he at a park? Again, details hazy) involving children gunmen, you really can't blame the police too stringently for being on high alert and a short fuse.

I think fleeing is important. If you are compliant, the police should have no reason to harm you unduly--not always the case, especially for black suspects, but I've never claimed the police to be flawless. Any action other than compliance and civil conversation is a risk.

the rice situation still makes me angry. reportedly the caller said they thought the gun was fake, this was NOT passed on to the officer by dispatch.

if i was that dispatcher i'd swallow a 12 guage, the fact they're not in prison irks me.

Dispatcher that never relayed pertinent information to the field officers about Kyle Plush should be in jail too

Will never happen tho, it's sad

lol man....... sometimes.

casual racism aside you can't shoot people fleeing a car on a normal traffic stop :bonk:

so you support the shooting of Tamir Rice?

It wasn't a routine traffic stop. They stopped the car because an hour or two before, it was involved in a shooting.

P.S. Btw, if you get pulled over and run from the car... if the cop can't run faster than you, he IS gonna shoot.

when you said "if you get pulled over" did you mean that Brian_D was the black kid? might be hard for him to post this thread if so.

also do all the cops just eyeball the perp's speed? or do they exhaust themselves chasing them only to dead stop and pull their gun up for a shot at the trackstar?

your statement was ignorant, just try harder...

"the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others."

The person's previous/past crimes are irrelevant to whether or not the officer has the right to take their life. It depends on the present tense pursuit and if they are a danger to others.

I'll make it very simple for you...

Btw, if you get pulled over (in a car that was just involved in a shooting) and run from the car... if the cop can't run faster than you, he IS gonna shoot.

With the fitness standards of US cops that's a lot of shooting.
