10 million to the best player on your team, best rb in the league, and he's only 26. The Steelers could have offered the 33 million guaranteed, but they only guaranteed 10 million. The Steelers lost their best rb due to them being stupid. Yeah, he wants an outlandish amount of money, but if you're going to have a 10 mil, 33 mil, and 45 mil "deals" in place but only guarantee 10 mil, who in the fuck would accept that? He's getting paid next year and it won't be by the Steelers.
It was a dick measuring contest between the two sides for sure. The way the deal was structured, the only way Bell wasn't getting 33 million guaranteed was if he gets suspended or severely injured this year. Pittsburgh could've just made the 33 million the official number and Bell might've signed, but they didn't.
I'm not mad at it. Bell's production efficiency has been decreasing each of the past two years. It's becoming more and more apparent that you can get legitimate starter production out of mid round rookies, and that teams that utilize committees at RB are keeping up with/surpassing performance of the stars such as Elliott, Gurley, Bell, Johnson,Fournette, etc. Hell...a 30++ year old Deangelo Williams filled in and put up Bell-esque production over the suspension games a couple of years ago.
Bell's as good as gone for next year, but if we prepare for it, I think everyone is going to be surprised at how minor the difference is. The public view is so skewed by fantasy football numbers that they are acting like we're going to turn into a bottom of the barrel team when Bell leaves.
