Well, if the Civil War settled anything, it's that the federal government will try to kill you if you try to exercise your right to secede

State sovereignty exists to a point. Federalism won and the US took on the path of a strong central government that has authority over the states.

You forgot to add the part about the right to own slaves, which is the state right the South was particlarly focused on.

The Right and their revisionism lol.

I live in far nor cal (which pretty much feels like a deeply southern state other than the scenery ) and the rednecks love to get fired up about breaking a chunk of cali off so we can get away from dem dirty hippies

And why wouldn't they want to? The blue state model of governance is turning into an utter failure.

What do you mean? We have massive budget surpluses, legal marijuana, and great public resources here in California. Red states are all broke, can't balance a budget, and keep arresting people and imprisoning them for things that should be individual liberties.

What do you mean? We have the most wealth, full employment, legal marijuana, budget surpluses, the best weather, highest paying jobs... what do you think is "messed up" about California?

What else do you have? Mass migration by the masses who can't afford to keep living there heading for greener pastures in red states. In a way, your massive taxation and wealth concentration for the well-to-do are a major driving factor in why you claim red states are so poor - it's because you export the people who can't afford your lifestyles. You have great public resources that you can't even manage properly. Oroville, anyone? You certainly can't manage your way out of your incredible pension crisis. Just like Illinois. As a matter of fact, even bluer state Illinois is on the verge of bankruptcy. They can't even keep up with court-ordered payments, much less everything else, all thanks to decades of Democrat policy. Tell me about red states and being broke again.
