I don't buy that. I don't think the way a cop is trained really impacts them as much as their own personality. A lot of cop training is bs and they just go through the motions just as many of us do at work. There are all sorts of "re-training" cop programs to get them to not shoot a dude in the face without assessing other factors. Doesn't matter, doesn't work imo.
I partially agree with your comments about training, the classes you take after your certified and passed aren't the best, sometimes people get something out of them but the training that impacts cops the most I would say would be is what they get while they're rookie police officers riding with a PTO. You get the basics at the academy but that period when your working with a veteran officer applying theory to real life scenarios, thats the most impact training. That and as you gain more experience with the job.
Ive got to say though, he pulled this after 4 years at this department and 7 years as a cop, I don't think he was cut out to be a police officer. In fact I bet this isn't the first time he's made a move out of sheer terror.
The problem is that despite popular opinion on these forums being a police officer is much less lucrative these days. Most states have totally gotten out of the 20 year pension system to something closer to a 30 year 401k system. Alot of qualified people see that and decide they would rather work in the private industry where they can make more hourly, work a considerably less stressful and less dangerous job, and have just as good a retirement as they would being a police officer. The result is people that wouldn't have made the cut 10 years ago or so are the top candidates for police officer jobs. You see departments lowering standards to qualify just so they can get more than the few applicants they get to fill the job spots. Not to mention that the media, certain politicians, and left leaning demographic love to vilify the police for doing their jobs. You want to fix the problem, give people incentive to be and stay police officers and don't fuck over their benefits.
