I come across these articles a lot, and as someone in the industry i feel it's my duty to spread info to hopefully help some people see the light before it's too late if they are in effected fields.

I may post longer later, especially on my ideas of urban agriculture to combat the unemployment and poor diets caused by a government provided food stamp diet, but for now i'll just dump in articles from time to time when i see them.

Because of trivial spelling errors on gaming forums?

Yeah nothing to do with the fact that robots are massively cheaper and more efficient.

The most advanced, generalistic, and free/accessible education is a survival question. 30% of population unemployed in the second phase of robotics "revolution"; want them ignorants or educated ?
Is it easier to find a way for your time when you are educated (from arts to science) ? I think it's essential.

I would assume there would be a program to subsidize laborers who were replaced by robots. If robots are THAT much cheaper to run than humans, then companies will likely have to pay some kind of extra technology tax that will help subsidize unskilled laborers, either in the form of universal income or retraining/education programs.

i expect this will help put more resources towards exploring space in the long run (as we ought to imo)

though i expect black folks will still have it rough when that time arrives

lol'd

automation is a good thing. At some point robots will take up such a big percentage of labour that most people can just be put to some fixed income and can pursue other meaningful things in life

Interesting story on automation vs. 2nd world labor conditions.

My favorite excerpt:

Quote
It turns out getting into an iPhone factory isn't that hard.

"They just gave me the address of the factory and I just went. I just showed up. When I was there I saw people holding luggage waiting in a long line, so I just stood in the line," Zeng told CNBC in an interview.

"When it was my turn they asked for my ID, asked to see my hand and asked me to recite the English alphabet. I got in after that. It took less than 30 seconds. You don't have to apply or have any skills."

i just want to welcome thesnipa back to pard

anyway i think in the long run automation is good, but only once we've fully adopted to it, many will die unable to get work sure, but then what? Robotics will be as elementary as the written word and anyone and everyone will have the knowledge and means to build/maintain their own robots. Reliance on the state or big robotics for welfare and goods or whatever will be gone.

We need to replace all jobs we can with robots if it's more cost-effective, otherwise keeping those jobs around is simply a different form of welfare.

indeed, in the short run things will get bad for many individuals. in the long run Universal Basic Income will create a forced sense of equality for a much larger portion of the population than we currently have.

I'm sure endlesscry will come in to pitch another SciFi movie plot where human jealousy of robots reaches a boiling point and we all rebel against them to take back the means of production at 10x the cost... you know, the kind of thing economics majors all believe in.
