The key word is 'could'. However he didn't. Instead he decided to send his son to Earth so that we could understand God. It is easy to use Jesus as an example when explaining the Gospel to a little child.

Even Paul tells us to imitate him as he imitates Jesus. Jesus himself used Parables to explain the Kingdom of Heaven and what God is like. This is how we can understand God as he has revealed himself to us.

His defense of God's method only works if God is incompetent, or incapable. When you're working with a God that can change hearts anything short of beaming information into people's heads is a garbage method.

Also sending his son isn't authoring the bible, so it's wholly irrelevant.

The topic of free will:

God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go either wrong or right. Only in The Bible, specifically Colossians 3:8, does it say - "But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips."
