I failed :(

I think it was a combination of too much volume for warmup, no food prior to workout so I was a little shaky (caffeine pill preworkout)

Did 275 like it was nothing and I didn't wanna burnout moving up in small increments so I just went for it

Should have done less volume for warmup + just gone up in increments with long rest periods. Breakfast couldn't hurt

or maybe i'm just not strong enough - hard to tell lol

That didn’t make a lot of sense,

You didn’t want to ‘burn out’ and waste energy by slowly incrementing the weight so you went straight for it... and at the same time you also did too much warm up?

Should have eaten brah

275 -> 305 was too big of a jump, but I also didn't want to waste more reps on 285, 295

def shoulda eaten

I can't tell if I did too much warmup.
Light lat flies to stretch the chest
135x10
185x5
205x5
225x2
275x1
305x0 :(

I think it was slightly too much but shouldn't have changed much at all

I should have done:
135x5
185x3
225x1
275x1
285x1
295x1
300x1

then probably save 305 for another day?

your thoughts?

5 lb jumps are too small, that is wasted energy

But jumping from 275 to 305 is too big a jump (speaking relative to your strength)

Let’s assume on a good max out day you can achieve a 305 bench. Work backwards from there

If it was a powerlifting comp, your opener for bench is usually 90-91% of your intended 3rd attempt, which lands you on 275. It should be easy, and you said it was. Your next lift bridges the gap between 275 and 305. Heavy enough to prime your CNS, light enough so that you’re not wasting energy

I would go 280 - 295 - 305. Singles obviously. Warm ups before that really won’t matter. I wouldn’t do any more than 5 reps at 185. Next weight 3 reps. Next 2 or can even start hitting singles

Personally I would’ve done 225x5 285x1 then 305x1 and absolutely crushed it. You spend less energy moving weights on and off the bar and can more easily crush the puss
