So Holtby's cap hit would only be 500k this year (albeit 1.9M next year) if we buy him out.

I imagine this happens if Benning is close to one of his prized UFA acquisitions.

Even if we buyout 2-4 players we still don't have too much money to fill all the holes unless Edler signs for like 1M which I doubt.

Only virtanen and Holtby is worth buying out.
Burying Roussel and Eriksson in the minors is the better move.

Perhaps Roussel because the cap gained from the buyout isn't much more than the cap gained from sending him down, but for Eriksson we would save 2M cap this year (albeit 1M hit next year) and Aqua pays $1M less real money overall.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Yep, but if he's buried the difference is only 875k, and the Canucks won't be dinged 1m next year and just be done with the contract.

In addition to strengthening depth on Canucks, Jason Dickinson also has leadership qualities. Stood alongside Bo Horvat, Ryan Reaves and others at front of the room in EDM bubble when players took stand against systemic racism. Canucks see him as a long-term fit.

He was also Dallas Stars player association rep.

One of the best scoring suppression player, aka shutdown center. Hopefully this eases horvat's deployment a little. Also played pk1 unit for stars which is exactly what we needed on help.

OK so I guess Miller will play wing with Petey now.

I guess the moves left is to find stability on the back end.. Looks extremely shaky with Hughes, schdmit, rathbone, myers and juolevi lol

Lind will be exposed for the draft. However with all the goalie movements like hill not available anymore, I feel like kraken will select Holtby. Their main choice will be driedger

No way Holtby gets picked. He's washed up and his salary is higher than his cap hit... why would an owner take an unnecessary hit to the wallet, and a GM waste cap space in a negative asset?

Idk ask the 8 teams that were interested in him, including Seattle.

I think they should go with driedgar and Allen, but maybe Seattle has a deal in place with another team for holtby. Also driedgar has to agree with signing in Seattle since he's a pending FA.

Seattle also doesn't care for hotlby's 4mil caphit either, they do need some big contracts to reach the cap floor of 60mil. Owners still end up paying salary regardless, some will be more than their caphit and some less. Also many gm learned from Vegas expansion, so Seattle barely did much to get any side deals. Holtby contract is up next season as well, another option would be Andersen from leafs but his stats aren't much better than Holtby playing behind leafs instead of lolcanucks defense. They would also have to sign him a new contract and risk if he will work out or not, although I doubt Andersen wants to sign to be a back up for dreidgar.

Bruins doesn't have halak returning, Rask out til jan or something. Relying on a single upcoming goalie is risky etc.

cap space = asset. 2 years of Andrew Ladd netted Arizona two late 2nds and a 3rd, and it's a lot easier to deal with a forward than a goalie. if we want Seattle to take Holtby we're going to have to pay for it.

Seattle has 81. 5m in cap space, biggest asset compared to teams around the league. Except the teams are not doing any favours for them. Now with the freeze, they can splurge in FA.

Seattle doesn't have much options for goalies anymore with hill being unavailable. Their 3 is basically dreidgar, Allen and vanicek. They could go with Talbot instead of Holtby, but Talbot is locked in for 2 more yrs at 3.6mil which is hefty for a back up role and that also means they lose out on soucy. Whereas its either Lind or Holtby for canucks. If it's not the above 3, I think Seattle may have a deal in place for holtby with other 7 teams and can use their cap space to retain up to 50% np to get even more value than canucks can cuz they probably can't retain as much to make sense.

Nice trade, exactly what we need.

Not sure if he's a 3c on a legit contender but it's worth a shot.

That said, bottom 6 still needs work and of course the defense.

Still don't see them taking Holtby without a sweetener and/or retention... so many better and/or cheaper options.
