Sucks that Demko was thrown into the fire, but it shows he's not far enough his development to bear the load of a defensive shitshow. Markstrom himself took about 4 seasons in the NHL to become a stable goaltender.

The team can't play low-event hockey, basically. Our playing style is to run up the ice, score as many goals as possible, and when defending collapse around the net and hope the goalie holds up. Green just isn't - or can't - get the boys to grind out with boring but disciplined hockey.

Demko absolutely stole the game vs the blues a month back though

This is a very true. He has had some stellar games.

I think what we are seeing now is the effect pressure has when you are suddenly thrust into being the number one guy when it is all on the line down the stretch drive.

As said earlier, it took Makrstrom years to get to this point. If the Canucks did not have other goaltenders who were ready to be number one guys during that time Markstrom may have never had a chance to get to this level.

that's the difference between a backup and a starter though - you can consistently play at your best. goalies are the only players to be on the ice throughout the game so it takes a big toll to have to start many games in a row.

this is not a playoff team.

Markstrom being out shows that

Unfortunate. At least Benning/Green will get fired.

On a serious note, I do believe that this is a playoff team on paper. They just seem to have motivational/effort issues mixed with a fucking abysmal system both defensive and offensive.

Nobody in this organization should be safe except Ian Clark, Judd Brackett, Malhotra, and Thomas Gradin

we have such a soft schedule to close out the season, we can still squeak in. play the Jackets again next week, Ducks x2, Coyotes x3, Kings and Sharks. so many matchups vs teams that are essentially done.

we look alright at the moment but that's because the Jackets are essentially fielding an AHL team at this point in the season

Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal should have been soft/easy games as well, yet we lost 2/3 in embarrassing fashion and barely squeaked out our one win.

Basically the yote games will determine if the Canucks make it or not lol

Canucks need to just win 10 games out of the 20 left and I think they will make it in. If they beat yotes 3/3, then it's even higher chance.

Demko is clearly not as good as markstrom rn, but he's wayyyy better than markstrom was starting out. Canucks goalies aren't gonna have numbers like nyi/Dallas due to the playstyle, they just need to be clutch when it matters and come out with a win. Markstrom seems to have it down, whereas demko is still learning. The last couple games demko let in couple softies, but he also robbed 5+ saves that normally would have went in. If he fixes not letting in softies like markstrom has, I think we will be fine.

Also it's the Canuck way to lose games against teams like Ottawa, where it looks like a freebie win but end up losing. Then they would beat harder teams where they are expected to lose haha

idk Demko plays skittish as fuck if you know what I mean, trying to be as positional as possible but doesn't seem entirely confident in his fundamentals so he moves a lot more around than you'd expect.

This team is just infuriating.

I don't even know what else to say.

Soon as Roussel took that tripping penalty you knew the game was over with how shit our pk was.

CBJ was supposed to be a bottom feeder but they don't quit, unlike the Canucks.

If Benning doesn't have the balls to fire Green after tonight he has to go too. Still NHL-caliber coaches sitting on the sidelines. Even if Gallant isn't on board this squad is simply incapable of playing cohesively for a full game. Anyone with a brain who can hold players accountable and have something that resembles a system works at least until the end of the season.

Complete coaching and leadership failure. team was playing fine vs a clearly inferior squad then decides to take some shifts off. Horvat skating in quicksand, Roussel and Sutter with absolutely terrible penalties, PK just watching and hoping they'll be puck magnets. I feel terrible for Domingue, bad stats continue but no fault of his own on any of the goals. Props to the Jackets for fighting back but we handed the game on a platter.
