on the bright side, we finally get to see how Demko does. If he proves that he's ready to be a starter, i think Benning would just let Markstrom walk... lol too bad trade deadline is over haha
at least the leverage would be on Benning's side when they discuss Markstroms new contract in the off season IF demko performs as expected

Could go either way...

I agree if Demko plays well there is less panic.

However if he falters Markstrom could stay in Vancouver on an inflated contract.

You know teams are going to throw all kinds of money at him once he hits the open market.

as much as Markstrom has been a god, he's not elite to get all kinds of money at him through FA. If other teams are insane enough to offer him 7+ mil, then i prefer Benning to let him just go lol
and gamble on Demko developing as Markstrom did, hoping he reaches a better ceiling than Markstrom has. The risk is if Demko just never gets it like Jake Allen.

He was godlike since last year after december, before that he was meh.

His stats in 2017-18 when he was just meh and replaceable, was 2.71 gaa, 91.2% save, 60 game starts.
His stats in 2018-19 when he was meh, then became god after december, was 2.77gaa, 91.2%, 60 game starts.
This season, he's playing like a god, stole about 10+ games for the canucks, is 2.75 gaa, 91.8%, 43 games behind a much much better defense than prior years with AHL tier D in front of him.

I agree 100%

I am hopeful we sign him before free agency.

If he hits the market there will be a team that will give him 7 mil a season on a 5 year deal. No thanks on that...

Look at the teams that signed goaltenders to big money deals. Stuck with a huge cap hit on goalie past his prime.

Demko played well enough get the win tonight. If he keeps holding us in we gain leverage.

Was not the smoothest game for the Canucks but when they had the chances offensively the skill shined through and they got the win.

Forward core looks great and Toffoli was a solid acquisition. I would be really upset if we are not able to keep him.

I still think the Canucks are too weak on defense to make any significant playoff pushes this year. A lot of pieces are there, but without above average defense you are not winning anything.

Toffoli just looks good with anyone who has skill.

If he is not the one driving the line that is fine.

If he has enough skill to bury his chances and knows were to be to get those chances I am more than satisfied.

That Horvat pass was ridiculous. Everyone in the building thought he was going to shoot.

I meant in the sense that he synergizes with skill, not that he's freeloading

Nice to see Toffoli clicking right away. Hoping he really enjoys it in vancouver and wants to re sign here,i wouldn't mind if Benning gives up a pick to trade away an anchor contract to keep him.

Based on the prices during the deadline, Toffoli was a steal. Imagine if Benning traded away his other 1st Rd pick for good row to get toughness haha

I'd hope a tanking team would eat Eriksson's cap, he's pretty appetizing since there's almost no money left and he can still contribute to a team. Bruins managed to dump 75% of Backes with a late 1st + late 2nd prospect and got in return a player who's probably worth a late 1st himself. I hope we could get away with giving a 2nd + B-tier prospect, but even if the 1st was included it would be worth the hassle if it meant keeping the roster together.

Alternatively we could dump Bae + one of Roussel/Sutter/Beagle, and if Ferland is doomed to LTIR all the better.

We are fucked.

12 of the 18 skaters the Ottawa Senators are dressing tonight vs #Canucks have 1 goal or 0 goals in #NHL this season
1 goal:
Reilly
Ryan
Zaitsev
Sabourin
Hawyrluk
Hainsey
Boedker
0 goals:
Norris
Balcers
Englund
Peca
Jaros

We all know Canucks like to give first career or first in xx games to everyone.
