maybe you're right, now word out is that he won't even qualify Hutton. Not that the guy is our savior but he's fine as a bottom pairing D-man. Which would make our roster:

Edler-Tanev
Quinn-Stetcher
Pouliot-Schenn

Biega/Sautner/Brisebois

so going into FA we'd have only 4 defensemen (assuming Quinn can handle a full season) who can even log NHL minutes without being a net liability every night, while not having anyone who can swing with the league's top pairings. we're going to be in such a desperate position we won't have any leverage with UFAs.

not qualifying a RFA doesn't mean the canucks aren't bringing him back though. They just dont want him to reject the qualifying offer and go through an arbitrator to be awarded like 4.5mil in cap space. I think he will have a decent case because he played ton of minutes with stecher due to injuries. I think canucks will just try to re-sign him for less than 3mil or something when he's a UFA and they're not too worried about other teams offering him 4+mil nor losing him

but without a QO he can just walk, not like he wouldn't be able to get a decent deal elsewhere. if he already had signed a contract this would've made sense but going like this into the 11th hour doesn't bode well.

Yeah that's up to him, I don't think he would walk tho unless he gets offered 4.5mil+ which I don't see other teams doing for a 3rd pairing. Also he would have to be down to move away from vancouver and relocate as well. He won't get as much minutes elsewhere compared to the Canucks with injury curse & and weak core lolnucks have either
