- historically it has always been part of China
- two parties within China had a difference and one took over an island, doesn’t make it a new country
- Taiwan is universally recognised as a region in China, just like Barcelona is well recognised as a region in Spain

If you can take it, it's yours. The problem with this scenario has always been the ability of CSG5 and the 7th fleet being easily able to impose a naval blockade on China. Also Taiwan totally gonna hit the three gorges dam.

1. taiwan doesnt have the weapon systems to hit that far, even if it does, theres tonne of missle defense systems by the coast to easily shoot it down
2. 3 gorges is a gravity dam, those damns are typically designed to withstand nuclear blasts...

Taiwan doesn't seem to agree. :)

And on a side note, Barcelona is a CITY in Spain, so it's useless as a comparison.

Maybe Taiwan should come up with a saying like... "Remember the Alamo". :D

well texas didnt agree for quite some time. well if you dont get the comparison, think of it as the Catalonia region in spain. the point is they both rather be a country, but the fact is their're not, just a respective part of their country's region.

Yes the Catalonia region is a much better example.
I was actually stationed in Estartit, Spain back in 1978.

Anyway, the problem in China and the surrounding areas, is all because of China's Nine-dash Line plan.
Against International Maritime law, China is trying to extend it's maritime border by a significant amount, illegally.

Taiwan is just China's first step in the Nine-dash Line plan.

those are complete different topics, part of plan or not, historically taiwan has always been part of china and it never split, just ran by another party that lost in an conflict, so my intial points pretty much stands.

the comparison would be, say, democrats lost to trump and doesnt want to admit it, so they all went to hawaii and called it another country, does the rest of america agree hawii is now a separate country even if the democrats there claim it to be?

What I posted does matter.
China just can't claim ownership of all the seas around them, at least not completely.
Taiwan is a part of one of the "seas" China is laying claim to.

China's main issue is that they think everyone in the world thinks like they do.
They worry, that if Taiwan is business, economic, government friendly with the sane part of the world, that the world will all go to Taiwan, so they can attack China.

What China doesn't understand, is that the rest of the world, doesn't "want" China.
They just want to protect themselves, from China's expansionist policies.

Some countries just haven't figured out that there is no... free for the taking land... left.
If countries want to "expand" they will have to do so in space.
All the expansion on this planet is already finished.
