this is pretty much what i meant yes  ! we are in the middle of a global inflation and imminent collapse, so we are having trouble even with this planet  so i couldnt really care less about spending 10 billion on some new piece of tech that will give us marginally better pics, and will probably be replaced in a few years by a 100 billion piece of tech
basically, if people are struggling due to inflation that was literally created out of thin air due to intentionally horrible political choices, i do consider those more pressing matters. and he can buy his telescope after  !
Its not a contest between a telescope and human lives, thats misunderstanding on a fundamental level.
The western world spends A LOT more money for saving lives and fighting world hunger than it does for science. Be aware of this.
Also, money isnt edible anyways.
Hunger is not primarily solved by money.
Saving lesser fortunate from starving needs heart and iron will to work towards this goal - and a lot of people do exactly that.
A lot of people give all they have to give those people perspective, trust me.
Dont confuse science funding with something that happens INSTEAD of the the try to save the world from starving. It has nothing to do with it.
Those 10 billion wouldnt go anywhere else instead. You see, money isnt real. Its just a number, its not. like all of it exists in the form of metal and paper. States throw amounts of money in all their departments without actually having it. Its a travesty.
And every amount short of hundreds of billion dollars/euros or more is nothing anyways. No need to talk about it as long as it serves a purpose.
