Special chests have specific chances to drop unique, set etc items.

There are also superchests, which also dont use mf except in a few circumstances, where the chest fails to drop magic items. In that rare case mf applies, but it is very insignificant.

um.... wha???

Superchests do not rely on MF at all. Its 95% of the time blue items, 5% yellow.

Sparkly chests are the only chests that have multiple drop routines that actually look at your MF.

MF has absolutely no impact on stats for an item.

MF only ever helps determine the item quality. In the case of sc's and lc's there is only one quality (magic), so mf has no bearing whatsoever. In terms of GC's, MF will make it more likely for a Gheed's to drop, though it will not help with the stats on it which are random.

So this also means that MF has no bearing on whether a Unique Phaseblade dropping will be either a Lightsabre or Azurewrath?

nope

only thing that plays a role are your luck (a certain percentage of all unique pb`s are lightsabres and the other ones are azures

but the monster must have the right lvl and drop from tc 87 or so to actually have an azure drop

something about
tc and qlvl

Pretty sure that's all in the info post that follows the guide, on page 1 too smile.gif

TC 87 is not required to drop Azurewrath, only TC 75. Mlvl 87 is required though because that is the ilvl req to generate Azurewrath. Hell Meph can drop it for example, even though his TC is 78.

Not at all, more is always better than less, it's just that it's not as much better as you might think.

You have to distinguish between actual MF on your character, and effective MF applied to the drops.

250 is the absolute maximum effective mf that can be applied to uniques, though you would need much, much more actual MF than is possible.

If you look at the different formulae, you will see that the factor of 600 for rares, 500 for sets and 250 for uniques are used to create a curved function. As you get to infinity, this is the maximum number you would end up with as well for each.

so just strait up 600 or can it be more for good rares?

There is no such thing as "good" rares as far as mf is concerned.

It's only magic, rare, set or unique items.
