I have done some reading, but I was curious as to your thoughts on or experiences with melatonin; primarily, though, yes/no to taking it, its long-term side effects, whether its of any use to those without any major sleep problems, and just anything you feel is important to know.
From what I've seen in others, including in my research, as well as on myself - melatonin should be used occasionally on an as needed basis. Supplementing with it every night could get problematic. You can develop tolerances to it where 5-10mg is not enough. Before you know it, sleep will not occur without melatonin. HOWEVER, if you need to get especially restful sleep one night, or if you need to get to bed earlier one night, pop 5-10mg of melatonin on an empty stomach before bed with plenty of water.
In regard to long term problems, there aren't any major health concerns besides dependency.
