There was no need to retract this. Some users may be puzzled why things happen a certain way and quite a few users on this site do follow this.

It's kind of used as your own personal anti-virus, run it when you want. If it looks fishy, you don't have to go thru with the trade (even if it's agreed upon - scams only occur when fg/items change hands - you can 100% walk away from a trade up until you drop item or send fg).

That being said, while it's not enforced by staff. It is your best protection (outside of using a mediator) from getting scammed as we have no other metrics to use while trading aside from these that are public/attached to each account (unless you want to go through a users recent post history to vet them to trade an amn rune or whatever )

One extra piece of advice I'd like to give you especially as a new user would be to just go slow and always use the trade window. When users are in a hurry or exhibit unsafe trading habbits like dropping items on the ground is usually when the majority of mistakes/scams occur. Trying to trade as quickly as possible via dropping items during a trade is very risky and highly discouraged.
