I still disagree even after reading all the above comments. I dunno maybe I’m old school. I remember starting out with 0 fg and only playing LS. I worked my way up the old school way: beg, borrow, barter, find shit sell shit but more shit sell previously used shit. 1 year later (or however long I’ve been here) and it’s still pretty much the same strategy.
I think the game was generous enough to give you a stick to start out with. You want hand me downs or freebies then beg the regulars and hopefully one of us is nice enough to give you something. =)
Likewise, back in 2006 when I started playing, mobs were significantly more difficult, there was no running away, shrining, and continuing the fight, either you beat the mob or you didn't. Starting with 0 fg, it was a question of just selling random stuff for 1-5fg each, and keeping on and keeping on until I found some good stuff, bought some (mostly bad) stuff, and keep grinding.
I'm still more interested in a market place listing time reversion. List an item? It stays listed and purchasable until the season resets. Can easily limit the number of listings per account to whatever number seems reasonable, and due to limited slots, makes competitive pricing for faster sales a thing.
I suspect most "starter gear" issues would go away, for less than 100fg even, with such a solution. This suggestion is far more unwieldy, requires a completely new addition to the game, and really doesn't fit into the character of the game itself.
