I just started playing the game and I am a bit lost.

I like hitting monsters but I have no clue on what items to keep or what to do with all that extra loot that I cannot fit into my inventory...

Is there anyone that can help out with some pointers, or point me in the right direction to find some?

Cheers!

P.S.: The mentoring thread is closed so I hope this is the right place for this!

look at some of the chars people have... you can see on their profile... plus you can see their market place items ft... while viewing their chars ...you can click a item to see sale history of items... .. you see what needed that way ...or just go for ee=enhanced effect items... the more ee the better the damage/ heals or defense... you can practice at transmuting with the TI items... rest just drag to shrine when low on life.. Make more chars so you can transfer good level 1 items ... or transfer items for each 5 levels to mules... can transfer using mp when you have more chars...

Welcome!

Editing in a TL;DR version as I just realized this post is pretty large.

TL;DR reset class, go fighter, follow fighter guide, and possibly look up a 20fg climb or 0fg climb guide if you want to be cheap.

Onwards with the original post:

--------------------

> what to do with all that extra loot that I cannot fit into my inventory...

Make another 7 characters of the same "core" as you and transfer loot to them via the marketplace.
If that isn't enough, you can "rent" a vault.
50fg a month for 50 item slots, and you don't have to switch characters or even leave the catacombs to use it.

> I have no clue on what items to keep

Axes, Daggers, Clubs. You will want EE for everything, Dexterity for Axes/Daggers (optional), Strength for Clubs (optional).

For armor, the best ones are padded leather (can be worn by every character class) and scale armor (can be worn by most non-caster classes)
Armor stats you want are EE and a stat like above (for single player). Vitality is also nice, but doesn't increase HP when added from items.

For charms with stats on them, you'll want Wild Heal or Lightning (most compatible) with dex OR str. more is gravy but expensive

For your secondary charm, you'll want either a Heal or a Focused Heal charm with EE and nothing else.
Secondary charm slot only calculates EE, so no other stats matter for this.

I am somewhat new myself, but as I understand it, 1 point in a stat is roughly equivalent to +1EE on an item.

My first advice, as a new user to the game, would be to not use a heavy weapon to start with :)
Thats just me though - I feel these weapons benefit from quick draw and other needed stats.

Just the LS trading forum or the in-game market place and buy a weapon/armor with some "Enhanced Effect" - that stat is going to be your bread and butter for most things starting out.
Once you decide on a weapon set, check the stat ratio so you can input you stats and find charms that have the needed stat to benefit your weapon type: https://ladderslasher.d2jsp.org/index.php?g=3

There are some relatively inexpensive items up ft on the MP, especially for lower levels.

There are also some trade threads with gear aimed/priced for newcomers:
