So what does it mean?
Let us suggest you have a level 25 club with 156 enhanced effect (EE for short)

Magical stonewood club
Level Req: 25
Damage: 91 to 411

+156% Enhanced Effect

Now lets say someone offered you this club:

Legendary drywood club
Level Req: 35
Damage: 54 to 243

+120% Enhanced Effect
+1 Magic Luck
+1 to 5 Life per Kill
+1% Critical Flux
+6% Magical Damage Reduction
+13% Heal Mastery
+2 Jubilance

It would "appear" the level 25 club deals more damage right???

wrong.

By checking the chart you can see a club level 25 with 160ee, will have the same damage as a club level 35 with only 108 ee.

So why did it "appear" the other club was doing more damage? Well it depends entirely on the strength (or dexterity) of the character with the items.
So to put them again, but this time with both items on the same character:

Magical stonewood club
Level Req: 25
Damage: 91 to 411

+156% Enhanced Effect

Legendary drywood club
Level Req: 35
Damage: 98 to 441

+120% Enhanced Effect
+1 Magic Luck
+1 to 5 Life per Kill
+1% Critical Flux
+6% Magical Damage Reduction
+13% Heal Mastery
+2 Jubilance

Now you can correctly see that there's a damage increase.

Whilst i'm on this point, how much does strength and dexterity change the damage, I would like you to compare the level 55 club which is equipped. Bear in mind these two screenshots were taken 2 minutes apart on the same character with the same experience:

you'll notice an enormous 422 max damage increase, did you notice what else changed?

I also swapped out the extra item slot charm/armor for strength charm/armor. This is the only change.

You'll also notice there's a 136ee dagger which is doing extremely little damage. This is because Daggers get their damage primarily from dexterity.
You can see the damage ratio's here:
https://ladderslasher.d2jsp.org/index.php?g=3

In short
Swords/Clubs: Strength gear and stat points
Staffs/Daggers: Dexterity gear and stat points
Axes: Does not matter. 150 str + 50 dex, 100 str + 100 dex and 50 str + 100 dex will all deal the same amount of damage and same critical chance.

Feel free to ask questions as this can be confusing to new players!

Did you also put in some information about viewing the items that appear in the Marketplace? They will ONLY show you the damage output based on -5% (if I remember correctly) from looking at the Tier of the weapon and only the EE% will increase the damage.

Glad someone put up this old news and made it relevant again for those that don't know. Good job.

I think you missed the point. There are no level 60/65 items.

You can compare the items at level 1.
A level 30 160ee sword/club/charm/armor whatever, will have the exact same defense/damage as an 80ee level 50 version of it.
The main point of why you'd use the 160ee one would be you can use it at level 30 then change for a different weapon at level 35 or higher. This helps clarify the minimum you'd need, if someone offered a 79ee level 50 then you'd know it's worse than your current weapon.

It's mostly helpful to know for trades and it also clears up for new players that if you have a level 20 item with 100ee, that you should change it by around level 30/35 to a level 30/35 one with 100ee, as it'll deal an extra 45-60ee's worth of more damage.
The example i gave of the 156ee level 25 club being beaten in damage by only a 120ee level 35 club illustrates this very well.

Character level has no influence on this, we're only comparing items.

A level 65 using a 160ee level 30 sword or using an 80ee level 50 sword will deal the exact same damage.

I hope this clears things up for you, as it was difficult to understand where you're coming from.

Not sure what you're talking about there. The damage on marketplace is shown correctly.

I've checked this with weapons also, and the damage is shown correctly. I'm presuming it's been fixed.

it was over 2 years ago, also it was figuring out the base item output from this link https://ladderslasher.d2jsp.org/index.php?g=3 and calculating the EE on the item... think it was like 5 stats or 5% difference.

But looks good it has been fixed, or maybe the information link is misleading.

EDIT: great work though, needed for certain.
