Only a mediator tagged and some Staff members can canncel a mediation request if the one asking for assistance doesn't need it anymore or if he/she went offline for a considerabile amount of time. If you don't need a mediator and you have an open request leave that to the ones that manage it. You will be informed eventually that it got cancelled. As a mediator I don't see potential in this suggestion or a huge improvement, I simply wish to be in control of your requests and manage them properly in order to avoid issues. This is similar to the suggestion of closing your own thread, but on a much minor scale.

this idea was also made for mediators convenience, sometimes it can take a while for a mediator to appear, and the ones that doing the trade either decide

1. To leave dont want to the trade.
2. Do the trade without mediator
3. Have to leave of a emergency
4. Dropped net for hours.

in all these situation, and many others the one that requested cant let mediators know this isnt happening anymore.
and later a mediator see there is one needing here and spend his time on this that isnt needed, and then the requester have spend his time replying its not happening anymore.

its unnecessary for a mediator to take requests that isnt needed anymore.

This idea is for both to save time

The above situations you mentionned will lead the mediator to contact the creator of the topic and confirm if they still need. If they don't (or not reply for quite some time), the mediation will be simply cancel.
It's not something that time consuming on our end, so you shouldn't worry about that. For you, if you simply don't need the help of the mediator, just say so when he/she contact you :) .

In my opinion, i would prefer having the mediator handling the cancel part (to avoid ''I need'' / ''I don't need'' / ''Oh well, i need help after all'' situations).
