Decent performance, individual mistakes cost us.

What game were you watching? It was a well deserved victory, they controlled the game from start to finish.

England won't be good until they have players in midfield that aren't scared of receiving the ball. Until that point we'll be a decent counterattacking side but fall short when we come against good opposition.

Given the circumstances where most of the first choice squad was rested, it was a decent performance especially in the first half.

Second half wasn't as good but still England had chances to win it.

Tbh the amount of real chances you got was pretty low. 4 shots on target with 5 attempts ain't that high. Yeah, the de Ligt tackle would have resulted in a shot on goal, but that's just one more.

We were pretty controlling I think, and definitely should be starting both Promes and van de Beek next game. Babel and de Roon are just not good enough. Might be worth it to experiment with the fullbacks too, both Dumfries and Blind weren't that impressive. There's a reason Blind has been playing as CB the whole season, he hasn't got any pace in him anymore.

And even though Memphis missed so much, I do think he actually had a pretty good game. I'd say he's responsible for the forced mistakes that led to the goals, and he has 2 assists to show for it. It really feels like once he misses one shot he gets mental block or something.

Tbh van de Beek really started excelling in the latter half of the year. Dude developed a huge amount in very little time. Koeman prefers to stick with what he knows works, and the midfield trio of de Roon, Wijnaldum and de Jong had good results against strong sides before. Don't change a winning team and all that. But now that he's shown his quality I think we might see him starting on sunday.
