Only reason to have him is to take knees to kill clock and you have to be winning to do that.

Exactly, well said. Trading the pick that became Wentz was super beneficial given what they turned it into. Worth way more than Wentz, especially given the Browns' track record of developing QB talent.

From the Wentz trade,

The Browns got ...
WR Corey Coleman
OT Shon Coleman
QB Cody Kessler
WR Ricardo Louis
S Derrick Kindred
WR Jordan Payton
OG/OT Spencer Drango
S Jabrill Peppers
QB DeShone Kizer

Throw in their next 5 first rounders for Wentz and the Eagles still laugh them off the phone.

Yep, they're basically doing what the Sixers did which is exactly what they should be doing. Hope they stick with it through the inevitable backlash unlike the Sixers who fired the guy who masterminded their miraculous franchise turnaround.

Eh. I think they would have rather had Wentz than what the picks turned into. In theory it was a good idea but too many of the picks ended up being guys that just aren't that good.

Lol @ Wentz being worth more than 5 future top first rounders

If we're evaluating in hindsight based on what the actual picks became, then yeah it's closer, but that's not really that useful in evaluating whether a decision was correct. In hindsight, by the same token, all 31 other teams should've drafted Tom Brady.

But if that's what we're doing, then we'll have to wait and see what the remaining two picks become (as well as see how Wentz and the Browns players develop or what the assets are used for over the next 5-10 years)

I'd take a franchise qb over 5 future first rounders in most cases.

For an unproven rookie QB...?

Fuck no.

I'm speaking in the fact that Wentz has for the most part lived up to his pick. Sure it's always a huge gamble. But it's looking like the eagles got the better end of this one.

Depends of course on how high the first rounders are, but this is the Browns so we're talking top 5.

In terms of raw value even 5 years of Tom Brady is only worth like 3 top 5 picks (Tom Brady's highest AV 5-year consecutive is less than 100, while a top 5 draft pick is worth on average ~35 AV over 5 years).

(this doesn't take into account his incredibly reliable playoff performance, just regular season performance)

Wentz ain't no Brady and we're adding 2 extra top 5 picks in this hypothetical. Isn't even close.
