I wonder that too man

I can only assume it's money... everything is money. As huge and popular as this show is.. production must cost a fucktonne. Guess they just have a budget and deadline obligations they refuse to exceed.

But what I mean is you would think with how popular the show has gotten and how many viewers it gets the budget would increase not decrease.

Yea that's sound logic but it can't be as simple as that, else there wouldn't be a need to rush as you say. I imagine it's a little more complicated than that. I guess ultimately, outside of merchandise sales etc the revenue the producers of GoT receive depends on how much the broadcasting channels are willing to pay through contract negotiation etc..

Broadcasters have a budget too..

I imagine there's a limit on how much money a tv show can make regardless how good/popular it is. Piracy won't help either.

It's different from movies whereby box office receipts etc make profit margins easier to understand.

Anyway back on topic a little, i still think the show is fantastic and i'm just gutted it has to end!

3 actors went from 300k an episode to 1.2mil an episode. That is why we have 7 episodes this season.

They just finish the show to please the fans and be able to sell the next big show, keep theirreputation of best showmakers. But the money has been done for this show, the cheaper the last seasons, the better.

In a vacuum, if all other things were equal, you would be correct. But in practical sense, you seem to have misplaced your frame of reference. 'Amazing' is a relative term. By what standard do you label S7 as 'not amazing'? Would you walk through a middle school science fair and say that none of the projects qualify as 'amazing' because none of them are sniffing a Nobel Prize?

When HBO greenlit GoT for S1, the team responsible for making the show was given 10 episodes to adapt a great novel. They were also told that if things went well, they would be given many more future episodes to tell this grand story. This meant they were free to include as much intricacy and development as they wanted because there would be time to pay things off later. The team also assumed (as did every ASOIAF fan in the world) that Winds of Winter would be available by the time their show reached that part of the story.

Fast forward to S7/8 and things have changed dramatically. Their source material is sparse, their screen time is cut and the HBO expects them to have a clear mark for the endpoint of the series. They know exactly how little time they have left in order to make the pieces fit into an ending. Everyone involved with this show has a job. Given this new environment, the people responsible for the show are doing an amazing job.

If someone is unwilling to consider the circumstances under which a show is being created (and instead insists on comparing everything as if it were in a vacuum), then that person might claim The Martian to be a "more amazing" movie than Gone with the Wind. Anyone who did that would be dead wrong, as Gone with the Wind is clearly a much more amazing movie.

not sure why you're doing all these mental gymnastics just to preserve the shows quality in your mind, the fact is the show has suffered since running out of source material, and that is a shame

Cuz the last 2 seasons haven't had the highest ratings and viewer count of the entire series.

by that logic those marvel movies you love to bash really are among the best films of our generation

So you prefer explosions and cgi battles with white walkers and giant dragons more than brilliant dialogue, a fleshed out story and more compelling character development. That's fine too.
